LONG LIVE RED CHINA (Would you like your troll mein with soft or crispy noodles?)

China will never go down, and don't think you can banish communism. Because the people won't let it. They know they are the last standing, they are the only ones left. America is in a decline while China's climaxing, America will go down. We are just done with our prime, if anything, we were going into a depression since 1992 (and don't say you don't know that year). Communism is the American's medias' worst nightmare, because of censorship. I hope we all have to read one newspaper and wipe my butt with one brand of tiolet paper. I hope we all die for our next generations to wear the red armband. We deserved 9/11, and they enjoyed it. You probably hate me now, I know, you just still think like its 1945, well too bad its 2005. We only stand to fall.

"Is it: the starter, the battery, or a short in the wiring to and/or from the ignition to something else?"

No to all. Your battery is okay. Your starter is likely okay. It could be some kind of "computer" or electrical problem related to the electric choke.

Battery. Starter wire. Ground. Something like that. Not enough juice making it to the starter to kick it over. Could be that sitting over night is enough for the battery to "catalyize" enough juice to turn it over once in the morning.

Take it in and have them check the battery with a scope or a battery hydrometer (about $3 at a auto parts store for a hydrometer gradiated for lead/acid batteries).

It's an '83...I don't know if it is in the "computer chip" category. It doesn't even have a cigarette lighter.

(Though I do seem to recall one of the cars getting vapor lock one winter...?)

"Copy and paste from Notepad, in other words."

Not quite. You have to make sure that your references to images have the proper prefix address all through your document, and don't depend on a previous, and possibly missing, address.

My neighbor called AAA and they came out with a battery checker and said the battery was working 100%...but that was after the truck had sat for over an hour.

Vapor lock wouldn't effect turning the engine over. It'd just choke it's fuel supply. If all she's getting is a "click", then the solenoid is engaging but not enough juice is getting to the windings to turn the motor.

"Simple as 3.1416?"

I like to use 355/113

It's not too difficult to remember, and it gives you very good accuracy, even on a calculator without a pi key.

So it may be a short in the wiring somewhere?

It doesn't turn over at all though? Or does it?

Another thing to check is the Reverse lockout switch. If the engine cranks, but no start, try turning the key off, jiggle the shift lever a bit while it's in park. Try it again.

Just tossing out ideas...

True.
You'd think after having the starter in my beat up car do something interesting that sounded similar, I'd have thought of that.

It's an infinite decimal, I think some fellow got to 8 million decimal places (or is that 8 billion?), and could still go further!!

It could also be the ignition lock cylinder, but normally if you jiggle the key between attempts, you'll get it to catch.

This really sounds like the battery has good juice, the switch and solenoid are ok, but something else needs a breather before it'll crank. If it was cranking, but no spark, I'd agree with a fuel problem. However, the fact that it's giving a "click-click-click" kinda thing sounds like a starter issue somehow. That'd be a ground, fried primary windings, heat soak from the exhaust (too hot exhaust or a dying starter, either aren't good), ect...

"Ideas" is what I need. It will start first time, but if I leave it for less than 15 minutes, it won't start. I'll get a "tik-tik-tik" or I may get no sound at all...just the dash lights coming on.

It's a standard, 4-speed.

The starter was replaced in October when I got the truck, but I don't know where the starter came from, as my son-in-law put it in. (He owns this place: http://www.renegadehybrids.com )

I plan on leaving Wednesday morning for Vegas and he can check it out then, but I'm worried about the trip...I have to stop for gas once, and I'm now paranoid...this is the second time it has done this in the last week ~~ it's never done it before.

If you compare 355/113 to pi using a good calculator, I think you'll find it's close enough for most purposes.

2.67 X e-7
