LONG LIVE RED CHINA (Would you like your troll mein with soft or crispy noodles?)

China will never go down, and don't think you can banish communism. Because the people won't let it. They know they are the last standing, they are the only ones left. America is in a decline while China's climaxing, America will go down. We are just done with our prime, if anything, we were going into a depression since 1992 (and don't say you don't know that year). Communism is the American's medias' worst nightmare, because of censorship. I hope we all have to read one newspaper and wipe my butt with one brand of tiolet paper. I hope we all die for our next generations to wear the red armband. We deserved 9/11, and they enjoyed it. You probably hate me now, I know, you just still think like its 1945, well too bad its 2005. We only stand to fall.

To: Anyone who is concerned about the matter.

Regarding: That small object coming up fast in our rear-view mirror, (radar scope).

It seems to be moving at a pretty good clip, but do not be concerned. It is not a cop on a motorcycle, nor is it a loose metal trash can being blown about by the solar wind.

It's NASA's version of a disposable camera, called New Horizons. They are sending it to Pluto, by way of Jupiter. there is no danger of a collision.

We wish the little robot Godspeed and a safe journey.

Also, there is no truth to the rumor that we are considering scavenging the 24 pounds of Plutonium on the craft. After all, we use Uran... er, a different metal for our power generation. We have no use for Plutonium.

Even if we did, we could always make our own, and .... (What? You did? -- Oh.) Okay, we might have some possible use for the stuff, but we don't need a mere 24 pounds of it.

hi, NnB. long time no squint. got lost in the castle - should have paid better attention during orientation. i don't suppose you know anything about building barns, do you? i have to build one in the near future - the next month or two - a broodmare barn. so far, i have had many suggestions regarding same. my trainer says i have to pour a concrete floor in one of the stalls (this is a 10 stall barn, 5 facing 5), with a moisture barrier underneath and a "rat guard" dug around the floor, poured with concrete, to keep the rats out. i suggested that i could acquire a cat at far less expense. he suggested that some individuals shouldn't be building barns and asked my husband if i was always "this difficult". so far, nobody has suggested we put up a bell tower, but that's about all that hasn't been proposed. anyway, if you know how to build a barn, i will be happy to pay attention. the other barn i built - with prout's help - looks pretty good from one angle, a bit peculiar from another, and when viewed from exactly the right spot in the field appears to have been built by seventeen people who didn't know each other very well. it will, however, stand forever, as prout and i build everything along the lines of a sherman tank or stronger.

Thanks, Bob! I was getting worried about that. Should have known it was something from the government :-).

thanks cb...it was good for a laugh.

What is the reason for this thread to have lasted so long?......this is the first time I came here and looked. I have noticed the posts, but on reading some of the old ones...nothing makes any sense!

This looks like a valuable resource, ... http://www.bcibarns.com/what.html

For my own design, for ease of construction, I would be tempted to anchor a slim vertical plank at one of the corners of the barn, and gently bend it to meet another from the opposite side. Then I would attach another plank to the first one, with glue and other fasteners, bending it to the first arch slowly, and joining another one from the opposite side. The angle of joining would be a ninety-degree one, which would place the upper part of the barn roof at a 45-degree angle to the horizon.

Gradually I would build up the gothic shaped beam until it could, with others at the appropriate mid-points, support purlins between the arching beams, and then I would add roofing elements. If you wish, you could minimize the use of fasteners and connectors made of steel, so that rust would not limit the life of your barn.

You may find this description oddly familiar, perhaps sounding like the manner of building a laminated bow which you may have encountered. The advantage of this form of construction is that none of the beams or arches are at any point too heavy to be lifted by ordinary manpower. In fact, it is likely that you would be using ordinary barn siding to make up the beams.

Keep in mind that such beams can be built to almost any dimension, by adding butt joint pieces at various spots along the beam, as long as the glue and adjacent members can lend strength to the joints. The structure may, at certain angles, take on the look of an up-ended boat. One would hope it could be equally water-tight.

You can also easily add floor supports at an appropriate level, by cutting the beam insertion openings into each added plank. The upper floor beams would have to be supported by temporary support scaffolding until the arching beams were made strong enough.

I like the simplicity of this design, and the relative ease of construction. If I had to build one by myself, this is the method I would use.

Of course, you do not have to build it by yourself. You will have to decide what the trade-offs are about the amount of individual effort versus buying frames already made and hoisting them into position using a rented crane.

In the "This Old House" series, many timber-frame structures have been shown, and the effective way to insulate them seems to be to apply the insulation to the outside of the frame, and then sheath and roof over that.

Of course, any frame or structure will have to go over the proper design of the concrete floor and incorporated moisture barriers and rat-guards. My inclination would be to have a slight elevation to the barn, with a sloping concrete apron around the periphery on the outside.

This insures that water running off the roof and finding its way into the ground will do so at a distance away from the barn, thus keeping the floor quite dry. You may choose to incorporate "scuppers" at points along the inside walls for clean-up to sluice the debris away to the ouside, where the carefully selected screening shrubbery will grow lush and green, protecting the walls of the barn from warm sunshine and prying eyes.

"Is the original poster even around (or real)?"

You mean this guy?

He was then followed by seven others. I guess we're building up quite a graveyard.

"Sounds like perfect dress for the Church of Bob. What time's the meetin'??"

The next meeting will be on Sunday morning, sometime between when I open my eyes and when I stop scratching.

I'll be wearing my cleanest dirty shirt.
