We've been there a time or two, just for research purposes of course. The town businesses love the 'weekends'. We talked to a few of the local merchants while shopping one time.

The townies figure the 'campers' dump nearly a quarter million into the local economy in about 4 or 5 days. That buys a lot of 'tolerance'.

The campground is right across the road from a 'Native American' owned bar. So, on one side of the road you have a bunch of Ho Chunks and Chippewas drinking firewater at a private club and banging drums all night and on the other side of the road you have a bunch of consenting adults on private property drinking firewater and banging.....

Oh never mind.

Plus the fact that the owners of this crap are partners with or hiring someone who tours the country supporting their practice of setting up shop in small towns.

So its evil to hire an attorney who is specialized and experienced?

Going against the town laws, and then suing, so the small town can't afford to fight them.

The story says that it was "a new ordinance,"...a new ordinance to stop this particular club? And the article doesn't say anything about the club suing, the club owners just want to be left alone...but if the town wants to shut down a private club, it may have to pay a price.

I don't know anything about the place in this article, but I can tell you about the one I've seen.

It's five miles outside of town. The only business is that Indian bar I mentioned, otherwise there's nothing on either side of the road for miles. The owner of the property goes to great pains to see that nothing is visible from the main road. There is a stage where on weekends there's live music.

All this guy provides is some water and electic hookups and a bunch of tent sites for camping. Security is provided by the campers so no family who got lost looking for Disney World can just wander in to the place.

Mostly nobody does anything too stupid and there hasn't been a single death or serious injury to my knowledge. The only reason anyones dialed 911 is for an ambulance ride because of dehydration. Check that, I think someone messed up cutting firewood with an axe once; which was ugly considering the circumstances...

The only reason anyone goes to town is to spend money on food, beer, ice, camping stuff, fuel, etc. And these people do spend money.

Considering what I have going on in my community I'd take a bunch of folks who just want to run around naked in a red hot heartbeat.

Although I was content in my home, I had thoughts of moving away due to the lifestyle of next-door neighbors. It burned me up that I should have to give up my home to get away from it.

We're still here. Said neighbors, in their 60's, lost their home, the husband sadly died in prison, and his wife is cleaning houses for an income. Such a waste!!

In case you may assume that I describe an area of low-cost housing, I don't. These homes sell quickly and the last I know of went for $329,000.

The suburban areas are not immune to "neighbors" we'd rather not have.

I'm seeing some positive signs that the leftists, socialist-leaning, and anti-American scum among us are finally being challenged. We all have to fight this destructive ideology. A letter of approval to anyone standing up against it is not asking too much of us. Nor is sending a letter off to anyone we believe is wrong.

That's the least all of us can do.

Ax is a dangerous thing in even the hands of a person that knows what they are doing. I use the estwing versions (after reshaping and resharpening) and they last FOREVER yet when I am hunting in remote regions I leave em at home and take the folding sierra saws or a take down bow saw.

I've helped search for hunters and campers that just bled out after a injury caused by a ax.....

Private swinging between freaks is not my business but if they neighborhood doesn't want it then so be it....We have titty bars, adult books, queer wanker booth-joints, massage parlors, turkish baths, private dancers.....and Swingers clubs of all types within the same zoning overlay here in nashville....basically in a ring around downtown...and a new Hustler store too..

Diana might remember this. It's a small, few hundred families and retirees, rural Wisconsin town. There are other towns, more tourism oriented, with strip clubs witin 20 miles. IMO, they picked the wrong town to do battle with. As I alluded to earlier, there was a multi year battle with Perrier conducted a few years ago. The opposition to the bottling plant was based not only on enviornmental concerns, but the fact that the town residents didn't want trucks rolling down their roads, no matter what the economic impact. That's not why they live there. A major difference here, the Governor probably won't come down on the swing clubs side.

Towns of Newport and New Haven, Wisconsin vs. Perrier

In 2000, Perrier informed the residents of two townships near Wisconsin Dells that they had a plan to begin continuous pumping of 500 gallons per minute of Big Spring into bottles (3). The company promised that pumping would have no effect on the local lakes and streams, and that it would bring jobs and money to the local economy. Many local people started asking "Who needs this?" says Hiroshi Kanno, a local resident. Many of the local residents are retirees who did not need jobs or large trucks rumbling by. Residents got together, putting up signs along roads reading "Go Away Perrier!". The towns even held referendums, voting 4-1 and 3-1 against letting Perrier pump the water. Perrier came back, giving the town $20,000, and launched a public relations offensive; the people of New Haven stepped up their community organizing. After the town chairman accepted the money, the residents held a recall, voting 263-92 against the chairman. Once the new chairman was in charge the people gave the money back to Perrier (4).

The majority voice of the residents was not enough. Governor Tommy Thompson and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) gave Perrier the permits it needed to pump. A group called Concerned Citizens of Newport (CCN) filed a lawsuit against the Wisconsin Department of Commerce and DNR on a number of grounds, claiming that the DNR violated its duty to protect the Public Trust, the DNR violated WEPA (Wisconsin Environmental Protection Agency) by not adequately identifying and mitigating significant environmental impacts, and by dividing Perrier’s proposed water bottling operations into segments, among other objections (5). After a year, a judge decided that the DNR had not gathered enough data to show there would be no significant impact on the environment.

The CEO of Perrier was quoted as saying that his Wisconsin experience was the worst his company had ever had, and that the people of Wisconsin do not appreciate a good business. Perrier has since turned its sights towards Michigan." (6)
