Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has been taken to a hospital, Israeli television reports.

That could describe Sharon's behavior for the last 2-3 years. Did they report anything related to the stroke?
I have marked your words. They are offensive. I understand your sentiment for Israel's best political course, but I do not understand your lack of compassion for a sick man who has served his country with honor and dignity for his entire life.

A good thing about this is that it sounds like Sharon got medical attention early. I've heard that the earlier you receive treatment for a stroke the more likely you are to recover.
PLEASE. do not take me the wrong way here. I DO NOT wish any ill will on anybody, that includes Sharon. If any of my previous posts gave you any impression that I lack compassion for the current situation, accept my apologies. However, if this is God's way for Sharon to exit Israel's politics, I feel that Israel MIGHT be better off because things certainly were not headed the right way under his leadership.
While I don't wish ill on Sharon, Sharon's leaving the prime ministership would be good for Israel. He has become a near dictator who through his force of political individual will for his own power has severely threatened Israel's security and sovereignty. Not that there are any great leaders, that I know of, ready to step up and do much better but let the field open up and hopefully someone can emerge.
A member of the Popular Resistance Committees told Ynet that Sharon fell ill because of the stressed caused by the latest wage of Qassam rockets over the last few days. “God answered our prayers and didn’t disappoint us,” the official said.
fyi - a "stroke" is not in fact diagnosed unless and until symptoms last 24 hours. Otherwise, it would be a transient ischemic attack (TIA), no matter what the news pundits call it.

If you are so willing to 'accept' God's will if Sharon dies or can no longer remain PM..then you should accept God's will if he recovers and remains PM of Israel. Your apology need not be to me, although I appreciate your efforts. (grin)
A family friend had a minor stroke, and has since recovered physically, but he has changed personalities...much calmer, and nicer than he used to be.
Well, most of his life anyway. Godspeed to his full recovery.
While I know that Sharon's decisions have caused quite a bit of consternation, and I am on the ping list..so I read all articles...
I think this particular thread is more about his health, and the more immediate questions about what is wrong with him...and how well he is doing..
MORE than a thread debating the rightness or wrongness of his leadership.
I am not trying to dictate what is posted...but, I see nothing wrong with having a thread that has posters sending prayers and good wishes to him...and would hope that freepers that do that aren't jumped on.
We need a Palestinian cam so we can watch them celebrate
any thing bad that happens. Of course a cam on a drone armed with a hellfire missle would be best.

As Undersecretary of State Karen Hughes traveled through the Middle East last week seeking to burnish the U.S. image, one of her key talking points was that President Bush is the first president to call for a Palestinian state.
"The person I work for, President Bush, is the first president in the history of America to say we believe the Palestinians should have a state, living side by side in peace with Israel," Hughes told al-Jazeera satellite television. She repeated the statement two more times in the five-minute interview.
Hughes, a former White House official, told reporters traveling with her that she remembered intense administration debates at the time "about what a significant step this would be for United States policy" if he supported a Palestinian state.
