OK, new thread for the next week.
First, a big shout out to the SETI members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.
Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 65 processors. ArgentCent is the latest to have joined our happy band of folders and jumps in at # 36 with his first completed WU. We now have 51 members in the team, and about 45 active participants.
Malsua, uriah and Ken in Texas are solidly in the top 10. One of these will probably be the new Numero Uno in a couple of weeks, barring newcomers borging dozens of unsuspecting systems (not that there's anything wrong with that!)
On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 1448. We are poised to overtake (today) Kami Sacred Folding Team, buzzez, Naptune, PCSilencieux and Team Razorsh*g.
The only competition coming up on us is still QHT HPC. They are out producing us by about 1,000 points per day. As we gain members from the 100,000 FReepers that visit JimRob's place I expect that we will prevail and keep our lead.

BOINC needs some serious changes to their interface. I know trained IT people who won't use it because it's so awkward.

Ok stupid question here, I've dumped Seti and am trying to signup to folding. I need to know the URL to copy and paste to BOINC. Do you know what URL I should enter?

What kind of timeframe is typical for completing a workunit?
Folding @ Home has a beta BOINC client, but they have chosen not to release it because of problems with the network.

run it and enter your desired name in "User Name", and "36120" in the team number place. You will then get credit for your work.
Do not leave the team number as 0, for that drops into Anonymous, the biggest group in any distributed project.
Of course, you could always enter "Texas Booster" for your user name, especially if you have a really fast machine ...
I understand that Work Units are dispursed based upon machine speed, so that WUs get completed in a week or so. This keeps WUs fresh from a scientific POV.
I have an AMD 3000 with a fast NVidia video card. Most of my units are about 3500 steps and take a couple of days. My present WU is 250 steps and will be finished in just over a day.
One's first WU is normally a bit smaller than normal.
Arrrgh! If only it were a BOINC project.
I could have tossed 70+ systems into the pool.
For a ~ 1Gig processor workunits are completed in one to five days running 24/7 depending on the size of the work unit. With eight processors running 24/7, I was getting ~ 2500 points/week. Now I'm only doing one processor about 4 to 6 hr/day - 2% of previous effort.
I've put this on my CAD station. The WU I have is 500 steps.

I think you do a lot better with "recruiting" here on FR if you'd explain what it is your doing. I don't have a clue other than you're looking for computers to help you do something. Security issues are a concern though.
Hey, feel free to toss CPUs our way. If you can borg that many CPUs you be in front in no time.
Thanks mucho. CAD workstations do very well on this, fast processor, fast video and lots of RAM.
Now if you can run it 24/7 without any other processes getting in the way ...
I did give up after more than a couple of hours. Ugh!
I've been running Seti software since '99, with 20,000 hrs of machine time. When I D/L'd BOINC I have no credit showing and Seti has not credited any time since mid-November. WTH, I quit. I can't get anything to do anything afer setting up project!

Not bad production at all. With the number of points ya'll generate with only 150 processors you stand a very good chance of being Top 100 fairly soon.

I signed up, will give it a try. Got a 500000 step work unit to run on my dual processor G4, so we'lll see how that goes. Can't run it if it slows down my work during the week, but I'll see how it runs tonight.
