Wind farm crowd no fans of RFK
Boston Herald ^ | December 17, 2005 | Jay Fitzgerald

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stirred up a storm of controversy yesterday by escalating his attacks on a proposed wind farm off of Cape Cod - without mentioning how his family’s famous vacation compound might be impacted by the facility.

Kennedy, an outspoken environmentalist on most earthy issues, wrote in an op-ed piece in the New York Times that the proposal by Cape Wind Associates to build 130 offshore wind turbines was nothing more than a government-subsidized industrial boondoggle.

“As an environmentalist, I support wind power,” wrote Kennedy, son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. “But I do believe that some places should be off limits to any sort of industrial development. I wouldn’t build a wind farm in Yosemite National Park. Nor would I build one on Nantucket Sound.”

Kennedy, who was confronted by Greenpeace last summer when he toured the Sound in a boat with a group opposing the project, said the windmills will cause too much noise, harm marine life and threaten fishermen’s livelihoods. Greenpeace supports the project.

Deep-water wind-turbine technology is improving - and Cape Wind should be pushed farther off shore, he added.

What he didn’t mention was how his family has long vacationed on the Cape, at the famous Kennedy Compound in Hyannis - only six miles from where the offshore wind farm would be located.

Environmental groups, who are now portraying Kennedy as a virtual traitor in the fight against global warming, took note of that omission.

“This is an unfortunate case of NIMBYism,” said Matt Palmer, executive director of Hyannis-based Clean Power Now, referring to the antidevelopment acronym for Not In My Back Yard.

“We are disheartened and dismayed that RFK Jr. is continuing his misguided opposition to Cape Wind,” said Sue Reid, an attorney with the Conservation Law Foundation.

In an interview with the Herald, Kennedy said he doesn’t own property on the Cape - only his relatives do. But he added he thinks “people should fight to protect their back yards,” noting he has opposed developments near his own New York home in the past.

He accused some environmentalists of “shilling for developers” of the Cape Wind project.

Kennedys, through their stupidity, keep legions of lawyers and undertakers in business.

Don't y'all know? Environmentalism is for the plebes. Ask Babs Streisand, who keeps all her houses at an even temperature (no matter what the energy cost) on the off-chance that she might decide take a break from lecturing eco-awareness to the rest of us and get in her private jet and visit one of her other homes.

“As an environmentalist, I support wind power,” ...

Obviously.

I can feel the breeze 1500 miles away.

The Kennedy Motto is and has always been:

"Dont do as I do ----Do as I tell you to do"

Fat Ted just made a big speech against the Patriot Act where he condemned tapping phones. Yet he failed to mention his brother Robert was an expert at it.

Fat Ted suggested that Republicans dont follow the law. He failed to mention that he buys the law in Massachusetts. He bought and paid for the Judge who turned him loose from a Murder charge, when he was responsible for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne. And lets ask this question was it a horrible accident, or was she pregnant with his child and he decided not to abort the child , but to kill the mother?

It should also be noted that "the environmentalist" Kennedy flies in a private jet instead of commercial. A typical Citation II jet burns 150 gallons of fuel per hour. At 400 mph that's 2.67 miles per gallon. What a hypocrite!

"Kennedy...said the windmills will cause too much noise, harm marine life and threaten fishermen’s livelihoods."

I visited the wind farm one snowy day in Fenner, NY last year. They are almost silent, you hardly hear them even when you are almost right on top of them. As for harming marine life, it is probably just the opposite. As every fisherman knows, marine life loves structure. Has Kennedy never heard of an artificial reef, never noticed that marine life always congregates around aids to navigation, or anything else that is in the water?

I'm starting to think that ignorance needs to be added to dishonesty as one of the popular characteristics of politicians.

But the thing that really gets me is that these days, the wealthier the guy, the further to the left he seems to be.

Especially if they didn't have to work for it.

I'm glad you reminded us of that (Robert Kennedy), I remember those days well. Those that weren't alive during the push for total Kennedy control of the government don't relize how unpopular they really were with real people. We in the South didn't think JFK was any gift to the country, that's for sure although rereading his quotes and decisions today he sounds like a "right-wing extremist"!

In an interview with the Herald, Kennedy said he doesn’t own property on the Cape - only his relatives do.

I seem to remember another MA 'Rat politician with the initials JFK saying something similar when asked about the SUVs he drives, something about how he didn't own them, "the family" does.

Anyone notice a common theme among these 'Rats? They never own anything, it's just their families or relatives who do. Sounds like a dodge to me.
