This morning, the Senate meets at 9:30 for a cloture vote on the Patriot Act Reauthorization Bill. Dems have vowed to filabuster it, ( though it's not clear if all will support the filabuster) joined by 4 Republicans. Should be fireworks on the floor..President Bush yesterday firmly called upon the Senate to support the Patriot Act, and many Republicans can't believe the Dems would be stupid enough to do this. So follow along...
That's true
Corzine is finally done
Now come the praises from the Dems
If she should ever get into the WH, she'll abuse the power whether it's been granted to her or not. Unlike the NYT portrayal of this current administration.
Now...this is nothing knew...they really don't care one little bit about Americans, all the RATS care about is their commie agenda.
Am I understanding this correctly , Frist voted no so he can keep debate going ? Hope he keeps them in Washington over the New Year.
That's always been his agenda. He's in Washington only for himself, just like many members of Congress.
That is true
Geez .. what the hell is Lautenberg talking about .. he is starting to sound like Hollings or Bryd
Rush just finished reading the parts of the Patriot act that will disappear, thanks to the Democrats and a few Republicans. Essentially takes us back to 9/10/2001.
Yes I know
Not exactly. Voting for cloture means "enough with the debate, let's vote." Those who voted against cloture wanted more debate. Frist sided with that side (wanting more debate) so he could file a Motion to Reconsider the (cloture) Vote. The effect of this is that the Senate has the ability to redo the cloture vote; if a simple majority of Senators votes Aye to reconsideration.
A vote on the Motion to Reconsider can be at anytime. This maeuver was used with the Bolton nomination, and the interim between the cloture vote and the vote on the motion to reconsider was from May 26 to June 20, 2005. With Bolton, the motion to reconsider passed via unanimous consent, and the cloture motion failed again, but by a slightly narrower margin.
But back to Frist - he doesn't want debate - he wants the conference report to be passed by the Senate. That's why he filed the cloture motion in the first place, to cut off debate and get to the vote. And by filing a motion reconsider, he is hoping he can get enough Senators to agree to cloture (cut off debate) and get to the underlying bill.
And I repeat, "Likewise!"
Why should he have a hissy fit? It's his fault he attached his own bill to the military funding bill.
DiFi up...
She is basically saying that the President violated the law which would be a high crime and misdemeanor, if true. They are trying to put another bullet in the impeachment gun, I think.
She is laying it on thick!
While she's trying to put the impeachment bullet in she's also been reading every amendment that indicates it was legal.
BYRD ALERT!!!
Oh he is going to blow a gasket today....
I am hoping. I'm not diverting my attention for one moment.
