LIVE THREAD: Cloture vote on the Patriot Act Reauthorization bill - C-span 2 9:30 am EST
C-span 2

Posted on 12/16/2005 6:13:47 AM PST by ken5050

This morning, the Senate meets at 9:30 for a cloture vote on the Patriot Act Reauthorization Bill. Dems have vowed to filabuster it, ( though it's not clear if all will support the filabuster) joined by 4 Republicans. Should be fireworks on the floor..President Bush yesterday firmly called upon the Senate to support the Patriot Act, and many Republicans can't believe the Dems would be stupid enough to do this. So follow along...

BREAKING NEWS: Senate rejects reauthorization of expiring provisions of the Patriot Act ...

LOL. The Senate just hasn't voted on the matter. It wants to debate more, and that it what it is doing.

Who were the Republicans who voted against keeping the public safe?

Hagel and Sunnunu were two of them.

Frist holds but the Rats with their hard heads would rather see America suffer another attack than to do what's right.

I frankly believe most members of Congress don't give a rip or don't have a fricken clue what's at stake. It stems from the DC beltway mentality.

Rush is making lemonade, saying this is a win for the Administration because it shows (to those paying attention) how vial the other side is.

So when the Patriot Act expires in 2 weeks does this mean the whole thing comes up again next year?

Alito will never come up for a vote.

Who were the Republicans who voted against keeping the public safe?

Craig, Hagel, Murkowski and Sununu.

Summary of the effect of sunsetting, and what law "steps into the void."
http://www.epic.org/privacy/terrorism/usapatriot/sunset.html

The void left by this vote isn't a risk to national security, in my opinion. And I think those who oppose have the better argument.
