Immigration Hits Five-Year High, Report Says

WASHINGTON - Immigration — both legal and illegal — continues to boom as Congress grapples with how to better control America's borders.

A new report by the Center for Immigration Studies found that 7.9 million people moved to the United States in the past five years, the highest five-year period of immigration on record.

The report, released Monday, comes as the House prepares to take up a bill to curb illegal immigration by boosting border security and requiring workplace enforcement of immigration laws.

There are 35.2 million foreign-born people living in the United States, according to the report, which is based on the Census Bureau's Current Population Survey from March. The report said an estimated 9 million to 13 million are here illegally.

"The 35.2 million immigrants living in the country in March 2005 is the highest number ever recorded — two-and-a-half times the 13.5 million during the peak of the last great immigration wave in 1910," said the report by Steven Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies, which advocates tougher policies on illegal immigration and favors attracting immigrants with needed job skills.

About 12.1 percent of the current U.S. population was born in another country, the highest percentage since 1920, according to Census figures.

Blame the Open Border Policy.

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

Nope. Blame the "new America" policy.

I am certain the illegal alien numbers provided by the government are bogus. 13-15 million? Uhhuh. There are that many right here in Iowa. That leaves 49 more states to be considered.

Your #21

I realize now that Bush said that, however when I voted for him I somehow missed that. I would never vote Democrat but it's time to make a stand even if it includes a 3rd party (Consitution Party!!!). I will be more attuned during the next voting session. I get the strong impression I won't be alone. We shall see how it turns out. It should be interesting.

Re your post #23. Ditto. In fact, I probably have voted in my last election. I voted/campaigned for GW both times. Sickening.

You should still vote. Look at the example in California on Jim Gilchrest, he didn't win but he would have if there weren't absentee ballots. As an American and a voter, you need to make your voice heard. That is what's great about our country, we don't like it, we can change it. No one promised it would be easy but you must vote.

"The elites in the party know how trapped they have us."

Not trapped, no sir. Nooooooobody is gonna run around thinking "hahaha they gotta vote fer me `cause the other guy is worse" when it comes to MY vote.

Got a little plan, may as well let her rip right here, right now.

It involves reminding each and every one in the RNC that now there is a little something else to take into account, the 48th district election in Orange County CA... I am gonna start emailing them with the following information and continue to post it so EVERYBODY CAN COPY IT AND EMAIL IT TOO. It goes like this;

IRVINE, Calif. - A GOP state lawmaker will be sworn in to represent a reliably Republican congressional district, a day after withstanding a strong third party showing by an opponent of illegal immigration. (Gilchrist / Minuteman Project)

Big fat BINGO!

A majority of those votes probably came from the pubby side of the fence.

This is precisely why I tell people that say they are not going to vote to go vote for the 3rd party that is supporting getting rid of the illegal aliens.

THAT way the votes show up and are c-o-u-n-t-e-d. The pubbies will come to the same conclusion YOU did, they coudda/shoudda had those votes. Unfortunately the winning candidate appears to be an arrogant *******. In a tighter race the pubby might not have won WITHOUT getting right on the issue of the illegal aliens.

GILCHRIST: "tonight's special election in California's 48th District, but he got 25.1% of the vote,"

CAMPBELL: In 2000 it was 62% R vs. 26% D, and in 2002 it was 68% R vs. 28% D.

44% Campbell plus 25% Gilchrist is the historically traditional Rep. vote in the high 60's.... The pubbies need to be VERY careful here. The "Gilchrist vote" appears to have come directly from the pubbies.

Note to RNC lurkers... Presidential elections typically do NOT have the luxury of a 15% - 20% numerical advantage.

You RNC guys better let this election BURN IN REAL GOOD... If You Screw Up And Do Not Get The Illegals OUT, You Will Loose The White House In 2008.

And I will post this over and over and email over and over and request everyone copy it and email it themselves. If roughly 1/3 of the pubbies votes are hanging on a SINGLE ISSUE, the illegals, and they know it and they stick with the Globalist agenda to sink this country with illegals it will not matter not one whit if howie dean or kermit the frog is President, the same things are gonna happen. If we can trip the shtf "big one" sooner that the globalist "plan" to in about 2010, so much the better afaiac, `cause this is NO LONGER government by the consent of the governed. It is a government out of control.

Time for the pubbies to put up or shut up and get out of the way. This country is dang near GONE.

Toadys Republican Party represents socialism just as strongly as the Dims do!

Real border protection will be left to volunteers like the Minutemen...Of course, I'm still all for a big water barrier filled with parana fish all across the southern border...

They might have you trapped but not me. I will vote for who I think is best. I will not necessarily vote for the most powerful but the one that I truly think is best for the position.

Thank you GW Bush for undermining America with the aid of the Republican controlled Senate. By the end of your term, you should have added about 12 1/2 million new guess-workers overall.

What we have is a land grab not an immigration policy, but that is the price for reducing every debate to economics.

Hey, B4Ranch, what a great quote! Thank you for posting it! I have some GOP-bot friends who need to read this quote.

The fact that the largest rate of increase has come after 9/11 is simply inexcusable

Our Stammerer-in-Chief's secret plan: By immigrating enough Islam to America, we'll somehow gain protection from Islamic terror.
