Senate Coverage -- (December '05)
Thomas ^ | 12-12-05 | US Congress

Posted on 12/12/2005 10:36:51 AM PST by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

did Rockefeller talk

If he did, it was while I was taking care of some chores. I got back upstairs just in time for the tail end of Kerry. I think what he wants is the locations of the "black" prisons.

Time to restrain spending.... in order to get to a balanced budget. 5 year approach says this budget is the first step. Now showing how programs are scored under program revues.

Carpa.....terrible name ........ system wide bill to review effectiveness and to change or shutdown failing programs. Like Military base closing commission this would be a way to close, discontinue programs that aren't working. Brownback describing bill to change how we are doing things, where we are spending money in ineffective ways.

Did you hear the discussion about upcoming speakers??

I guess Durbin wants 15 minutes...and Boxer 30 minutes in time "as if in morning business"...

HMMMMMM--what is this about?? Could it be the wiretapping?

Or is Boxer gonna cry about Bush calling out California yesterday? LOL

What an interesting admission this is. As long as the Senators have the power to make the decisions, no program, however wasteful, can be eliminated. You have to take the decision making power away from them. They cannot exercise control.

Perhaps the dwarf senator from California will call for the impeachment of the President. She hasn't had her office filled with roses for some time now.

Something else I have been meaning to post...

A little while ago, I saw the exchange between McCain and Coburn about the "pork"...

First, Coburn got up and gave a concise report about the abuse of Medicaid and Medicare...and how cutting them could be accomplished just by getting rid of fraud...

BUT, then McCain interrupts him to rattle off the list of pork projects, with special emphasis on Alaska and Hawaii...like he ALWAYS does, with these big spending bills...

BUT, then he talked like he and Coburn were gonna be best buds and get together to "change things"...which would be okay...but, he said "yes, NEXT year, there will be some changes made"...

I just had to laugh, because that is McCain, he only gets up and and speaks at the very END of the process...and to gripe about the pork projects...but, then he votes FOR the spending bill everytime...

WHAT a joke he is...next year, he says...why not NOW Senator...go out on that filibuster limb for once...don't just gripe, put yourself out there!!!

But, he won't...LOL

Well, there we were, Tx, you and I, having exactly the same thoughts. After all these years, McCain, I said to myself, what have you done about this? Zip, nada, nothing.
