Here's an example of Al Franken's "values."

Near the end of his Lies book, on page 354 (p. 363 in the paperback) Franken recounts the story of telling a Methodist minister about his book on an airplane flight.
As Franken tells it:
"Do you know what God’s punishment is for liars?" [the minister] asked me ... "God’s punishment for liars is that they believe their own lies."
I thought it would be a great ending for this book ...
So I asked God where exactly in the Bible he said that. God told me that the Methodist minister had had his head up his ass. It doesn’t say that in the Bible. (emphasis added)
You would think that an honest author would really check his facts on this one before saying a man of the cloth had his "head up his ass." Not Franken.
The truth? The minister was entirely correct. The Bible, in 2 Thessalonians 2:10-11 says,
"... and in every wicked deceit for those who are perishing because they have not accepted the love of truth so that they may be saved. Therefore, God is sending them a deceiving power so that they may believe this lie." (NAB)
So did Franken apologize to the minister in the paperback edition for besmirching him (although the man is unnamed in the book)? Did he apologize for his lie?1 No. Instead, in a footnote at the bottom of page 363 (paperback only), Franken says,
"I guess it was God who had his head up his ass."
Nice, eh? And the Democratic Party wonders why most reverent Christians have roundly rejected their platform in recent years. With a prominent Democratic voice like Franken spewing sacrilegious lines like this, it's no wonder.

What is a "value?" she asked the troll rhetorically. A "value" is a word John "I'm Irish! Really!" al-Ker'ry started to throw generously out onto the campaign trail late last summer, when he felt things slipping away. He didn't know what it meant, either.
