This charge is harder to prove, and likely is going nowhere. Judge Napolitano is behind the legal curve. Again.

Most people would be amazed just how ignorant many judges are about the law.

Brian Wilson had a quote from the Judge listing the hurdles Earle has to clear to get a conviction and in sounds impossible for him to do so.

Anti-christians went around with paint and wherever they found a Merry Christmas sign they X'd out the Christ in the word...leaving Xmas. Taking the Christ out of Christmas...so using Xmas is only doing that too. My bad memory and lack of historical references make it impossible to know which attack on religion started this.

Somehow there ought to be a relative way to explain the X on Cheney this week too. chXy,cheXy, cXey...well that fits him when he smiles! LOL

Well that was easy to debunk:

3. What is the origin of the word "Xmas"?

Unbeknownst to many, the word "xmas" was not invented by carnal merchants trying to commercialize Christmas. The word is actually an old English one. The "x" in Christmas is the Greek letter chi, which is the first letter in the Greek word for "Christ." Thus, "xmas" is simply a shortened version of "Christmas."

Your opinions are always well-reasoned, why aren't you the commentator on Fox?

Check out how Yahoo News is spinning the story: DeLay's money laundering charges upheld

Honestly, the “story” is the charges that were dropped. Of course, they focus on the charges remaining.

Yes, but the stickler is that in order for there to be money laundering, the money has to be from the proceeds of criminal activity.

If there is "a check from money's received by corporations into Delay's company", there is no felony there.

If there is then "an equal amount of check from RNC to the Texas Rebublican re-election coffers", maybe there is a felony there - that would have to be proven, but that will be very difficult. Since the conspiracy charge was dismissed, it is only at this point that if the money is spent, disbursed, etc. that it becomes proceeds of criminal activity.

Delay would then have to be involved in conducting, supervising or facilitating a transaction involving these re-election funds, or expending or receiving them. The 2nd Grand Jury said that Earle did not have the evidence to prove this. Here is what they said Earle had:

One source said the sole evidence Earle presented was a DeLay interview with the prosecutor, in which DeLay said he was generally aware of activities of his associates.

There's no way that's going to get Delay convicted on money laundering charges!

I can visualize the pictures of "troops" storming through the city...I hesitated to say German Youth Gang and Naxi symbols since I could be way.... centuries ...wrong. I am sure someone else can fill in the details

No, there is only one version and it's as simple as what I've said. "X" (as in chi) was used as an abbreviation for Christ from early times, perhaps initially as a camouflage for the religion. It was the first letter of the word Christos (meaning "the anointed one," e.g., the Messiah) and fortuitously was cross-shaped, so there seemed to be some symbolism or double meaning. It's been used as a scholarly and not-so-scholarly abbreviation since.

Fox does not know that I, or any other legal expert not currently on its Rolodex, exist. Napolitano looks like a judge, seems friendly, and will address any legal subject. They don't have a hot button for accuracy, above and beyond those three essential TV qualities. LOL.

John / Billybob

P.S. And as the poster prior to you noted, the mere fact that someone is / or was a judge, is no guarantee that they are either bright or knowledgeable. Judges on average are smarter and better prepared than lawyers, but that is damning with faint praise.

I can clearly in my mind see the original claim I made. Sorry I can not place it in a certain part of my religious upbringing in the Episcopal, High Church experience...I feel it was a film and was dark and maybe a European village event. I wonder if it was way earlier in history. Christians have been under attack many times. I can picture the messy paint spilling slashes over the words.

The Republican caucus should dump this idea that someone indicted has to step down since indictments are so easy to obtain.

The Democrats are using the Republicans own ethics against them, just like the 9/11 hijackers used the decency of American's against the people on those planes.

No doubt that it has been portrayed that way. However it's amusing that using the X instead of Christ probably saved quite a few early Christians and in alot of ways is a honourable way to refer to the Christmas season.

Of course with the commercial aspects of the season, as it stands today, all meaning is lost.

Sad sad state of affairs.

But on the bright side many atheists probably have no idea that when replacing Christ with X they are actually accomplishing nothing. LOL
