Some on the morning talk shows suggested that McCain is the natural successor to Bush for his committment to the war, and that Bush will "pass the baton" to him.
My question is: if Bush endorses McCain will you think aboout voting for him? Personally I don't care for McCain for a number of reasons, but if I think he will continue W's legacy, I might reconsider.
What do you think?

Nonsense? I believe a principled vote is fine. But don't hide your head in the sand regarding the consequences. Yes, you will send a message. The beneficiary of the message will be Hillary Rodham Clinton, Marxist and totalitarian. But at least you will show the Republicans.
I don't want McCain either, but the thought of Hillary in the White House is terrifying. Make your principled vote. I will respect that. But when Hillary is in the White House because people stayed home or wanted to show the GOP they couldn't get away with nominating McCain, live with consequence and don't complain about her.

It's simple: I will never vote for McCain in a Republican primary, but if McCain gets the Republican nomination, I would vote for him against any Dimocrat.
McCain has a lifetime conservative rating in the 80s. If that makes him a RINO, then Henry Hyde and Rick Santorum are RINOs. He's very far removed from any RINO's voting record. Let me know when turns left of center and starts voting "our way" a mere 40% (like Arlen Specter and Linc Chaffee) and I'll be happy to call him a RINO.
I'll certainly vote McCain IF he gets the nomination and GENERAL ELECTION choice is him or a communist like John Kerry. But no, I don't vote for actual RINOs. George Ryan would never get my vote in a general election, or Arnold Schwatzkennedy, or Lincoln Chafee, or Chris Shays, or any other RINO. McCain might be a media whore and an arrogant jerk, but he IS a relible Republican vote in the Senate nonetheless.
You see no evidence? Well here is some evidence even though I'm not sure it justifies voting for McCain for President.
McCain on Taxes is more of a "moderate" but he has supported far more tax cuts.
He has provided unwavering support for the Iraq War.

McCain supported the ban in Arizona on Gay Marriage but retreated when confronted with the attempt at moving forward a constitutional amendment but he is clearly not a pro homosexual agenda Republican.

Now I'm not saying I'd vote for McCain in a primary but if it were a choice between him and some real liberal I'd do it. McCain wants to be a populist, he could be a great President if he could just resist throwing bones to liberal dogs yapping at him but I doubt that will change.

As for this "conservative rating," I challenge you to back it up with solid facts. To that end, answer the following.
What's is McCain's stance on illegal immigration?
What's his stance on abortion?
What's his stance on honoring Second Amendment rights?
What's his stance on the War on Terror?
What's his stance on the liberation of Iraq?
What's his stance on artificial "exit strategies"?
What's his stance on cutting welfare and other socialist programs?
What is his stance on securing America's borders?
What is his stance on NAFTA and similar trade agreements?
What is his stance on Unions?
What's his stance on tax cuts?
Now for each of these, reconcile those professed positions with his voting record.

I agree. I have been impressed by him though. The case he made for the Iraq war at the 2004 RNC convention was without rival and his jab at Michael Moore was priceless. I'm sure his liberal fawners with Republican fetishes were slack jawed after that but still McCain has this fly-in-the-soup tendency which he can't seem to shake.

I think you need to set your bar higher on what you consider conservatism, national sovereignty (how often have you seen McLame screaming for an end to the invasion over the Arizona borders?), limited government and fiscal sanity.
