Kidnappers Threaten to Kill Iraq Activists

Dec 02 3:52 PM US/Eastern

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Al-Jazeera television broadcast a videotape Friday in which kidnappers of four Christian peace activists threatened to kill their hostages unless all prisoners in U.S. and Iraqi detention centers are released. The kidnappers gave the two governments until Dec. 8 to meet their demands, Al-Jazeera quoted a statement delivered with the tape as saying.

The tape showed what the broadcaster said were two Canadian hostages. An American and a Briton are also being held. All four appeared frightened.

The Canadians were shown eating from plates of what appeared to be Arabic sweets. In a second clip, the British and American hostages were shown to talking to the camera but no audio was transmitted.

The two were calling on the U.S. and British governments to withdraw from Iraq, Al-Jazeera reported, quoting a statement from the kidnappers, who earlier identified themselves as the Swords of Righteousness Brigade

Last night, on the CBC it was said that the American captive had announced, prior to him leaving for Iraq, that if anything should happen to him, like being killed by bombings or kidnapped...that his loved ones shouldnt bear a grudge againts his killers/kidnappers...but they should take the time an understand why he was killed or kidnapped.

i can enlighten them before he gets his head chopped off...

The terrorists, insects, did this because they have no conscience, no morality, and oh yeh, if you were there they'd chop your head off too...know why? Because they HATE YOU AND WANT TO KILL YOU JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE...and that being non-muslim/christian/white/black/asian/muslim and every other race, creed you can think of. KILL OR CONVERT...or pay a life-tax.

I thought he said the irony is delicious.

It is interesting to see how the people who claim that appeasement works have now been made into concrete proof that appeasement does not work.

Someone about to die is Delicious?

Yes, of course, but you must baste them in barbecue sauce to truly bring out the nuances of flavor.

I wonder how the peace movement will be affected if these people are executed in the customary way on camera.

If you think about it, these "activists" have managed to arrange it such that everyone can loathe them: they're 'blame-America-firsters', so they incur the wrath of the right, and they're Christians, so the left automatically hates them, and they're American, so the Muslims are out to get them. From that perspective, they're just...suicidal.

Bush will be personally blamed for the deaths to be followed by strident demands to get out of Iraq; i.e. there will be no noticeable difference.

Dwayne T. Robinson: "Looks like we are going to need some more peace activists, I guess"

Excellent! How about:

We may lose 20, 25 per cent of the hostages. Tops!

This is truly tragic, but the left has to grow up and take the situation in Iraq seriously. This isn't a 'die in' on the Washington Mall; it's a real war. And there's a reason it's being fought. These four misguided boobs are about to find out what real brutality is, and it's not Abu Ghraib.

From the WSJ Opinion Section by James Taranto, on Dec. 1, 2005:

http://www.opinionjournal.com/best/?id=110007620

"The Christian Peacemaker Teams, the anti-American group four of whose members are being held captive by terrorists, for a year and a half ran an "Adopt-a-Detainee campaign," described on the CPT Web site:

The Adopt-a-Detainee Letter-Writing Campaign, beginning in March 2004, matched individual detainees with congregations, mosques, synagogues, and peace groups in North America and around the world. These groups wrote letters to U.S., Iraqi and other relevant officials on the detainees' behalf. The campaign grew out of CPT's investigation of and reporting on abuses within the U.S.-run detention system in Iraq during the fall of 2003. The Adopt-a-Detainee Letter-Writing Campaign included a total of twenty-seven detainees, nine of whom U.S. officials released during the campaign, ten of whom were still detained at last word, and seven of whom U.S. officials never confirmed as detained (i.e., the "disappeared.")

Why doesn't the CPT try writing letters to the terrorists and see how far that will get them?"

And here is the LINK to the website of these peace activists about their "adopt a detainee"program:
