In their insightful and offbeat Freakonomics Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner tell the remarkable story of Stetson Kennedys important role in preventing a substantial national revival of the Ku Klux Klan following World War II. Kennedy first infiltrated the Klan on his own and learned its secret structure, terminology, and passwords and then, in a stroke of genius, provided these to . . . The Adventures of Superman radio show. The script writers made great sport of the Klans goofy terminology (Exalted Cyclopses, Kleagles, Klaverns, etc.) as Superman battled against them. Very soon all over the country children were playing Superman vs. The Klan and mocking the Klans bizarre and murderous thuggery. Members began to leave in droves.
Kennedys success demonstrates that it is much more difficult to strike fear into a society when its children are laughing at you. Some six decades later the comic geniuses behind South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have on occasion turned their attention to a different set of bizarre and murderous thugs...

Those bastards!
(Sorry, couldn't help myself)
That said, the approach suggested (undermining through satire) might have a lot of merit.
"After seeing Team America it is virtually impossible, for any of the five of us anyway, to see a picture of Kim Jong Il or even hear his name without the goofy South Park puppet leaping to mind." I wonder if ol' dearly beloved leader Kim Jong-il has seen Team America?
..... Punch line ???? LOL!
I hope NRO doesn't keep writing articles about South Park. My dad will decide to watch it. :~D
I appreciated how Brit Hume, in the weeks and months after 9/11, had tons of stuff in his humor segment (at the end of the hour) making fun of al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.
He ordered puppets made to look like Matt and Trey, and then shot them!
I'd love to hear Ol' Kim say "I'm so ronery". LOL
Liberals hate that Southpark is so popular. I missed the Scientology episode, can't wait to see it!
".. what forms of ridicule could really work against the Baathists, the Shiite theocrats in Tehran, al Qaeda, and the Wahhabis.."
Well, first of all, you start with an Irishman discussing the Shiites....
Can't you just hear it?
I just laffed my behind off with all that dirka dirka dirkastan stuff
And yet you still found your way to this thread......
8^)
Top of the mernin to ye mooHamid!
Whar ye goin with that big heavy sack o potatas?
Sometimes (often times) they can go pretty far over the edge, and then I have to be in a really subversive mood to get my jollies watching their work.
BUT
Don't totally judge them until you've seen the "Scientology" episode of South Park. You can even watch the whole episode for free on the web! Just go to the ScienTOMogy website, and scroll down until you see the link for the South Park episode.
It had me in stitches.... "Dad, Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet!"

I'd bet money he is indeed aware of it. He's supposed to be a big movie fan. And these Commie-Korea-lovers seem highly p.o.'ed about it.
