Missile Attack On Passenger Jet?
Radio News | November 28, 2005

Posted on 11/28/2005 4:49:25 AM PST by texianyankee

I heard on the radio this morning, that a pilot of a passenger jet departing LAX claimed to have narrowly avoided being hit by a missile. It was reported that the jet was about 6,000 feet in altitude & over the ocean when the event occurred. The news report further stated that authorities believe it was possibly a flare or a "bottle rocket."

I googled but found nothing. Anyone else have some info on this? I dont recall whether it was CBS or NBC radio news.

No, I've not been there. I bet many places I used to eat in LA (which I've forgotten half their names) are no longer around...I used to often go at lunch though to Olvera Street, and other places that were not fancy for Mexican food, which I miss, after having lived in NY for several years.

thanks for the pings. Something tells me this is like the early days of memogate or the anthrax attacks story in florida when we were running it down.

Northeast Intelligience Network does make a fleeting mention of the incident in their article about the use of Manpads.

If this was indeed a missle attack then the government would do everything in it's power to cover it up. The reason (maybe) for this would be that the American people would DEMAND that they round up all the stray foriegners and deport them. We're still letting thousands in each year on student and religious visas not to mention the illegals walking over the border.

Officially LAX is in Inglewood

Excuse me? LAX is part of the city of Los Angeles. LAX is not in Inglewood.

Its in westchester

No, it's in the City of Los Angeles. However, Westchester is part of Los Angeles, just as Venice is part of LA.

I need to quit skimming the main pages. If I had scrolled down far enough I would have found the article about the event published yesterday in which this thread at Free Republic is specifically mentioned and texianyankee is alluded to.

Al baby is correct. I just went and checked a map linked at the City of Los Angeles site. Westchester is now a separate city and does contain the airport in what was once an unincorporated area adjacent to Inglewood. LAX was known as "Inglewood" for many years (one entered from Inglewood on Century Boulevard).

Home of LAX
Considered to be the gateway to Southern California, Westchester is home to Los Angeles International Airport and the aerospace industry. Westchester is a charming area where families live and raise their children. The community promotes a sense of belonging that has contributed to its growth. The central business district is located between Sepulveda Blvd. and 92nd Street. It provides a wide range of commercial and retail businesses while Century Boulevard's busy thoroughfare is home to numerous hotels and shops. As with any thriving community, restaurants abound in Westchester. One of the most unusual is the Theme restaurant at the Los Angeles International Airport. It is a world famous landmark and its unique architecture stands out and is easily recognizable to residents and visitors alike. The building's observation deck offers a 360-degree view of LAX. As a family oriented area, The Westchester Park and adjacent Westchester Golf Course offers fun for the entire family. The park provides baseball diamonds, basketball and tennis courts, and a swimming pool. It also hosts various events over the course of the year. The golf course is a 15-hole course, par 3 and 4, and perfect for golfers with any level of experience. For the history buff, the city is home to the Centinela Adobe and Centinela Valley Heritage Center Built in 1834, the adobe serves as a museum of period furniture and farming. The heritage center features Victorian era antiques gathered from the area's mansions.

I lived in Culver City and worked in Marina Del Rey for several years.
City boundaries in LA are a maze of pockets, corridors, and unintelligible number changes.
