I heard on the radio this morning, that a pilot of a passenger jet departing LAX claimed to have narrowly avoided being hit by a missile. It was reported that the jet was about 6,000 feet in altitude & over the ocean when the event occurred. The news report further stated that authorities believe it was possibly a flare or a "bottle rocket."
I googled but found nothing. Anyone else have some info on this? I dont recall whether it was CBS or NBC radio news.
Reminds me of something I heard on ABC radio on September 11, 2001, shortly after the second plane hit the WTC.
The report was that "The FBI has determined that this was NOT a terrorist attack" !
Now I don't remember if this "news" report was read by an ABC news national correspondent, or by our local morning radio personalities (Curtis Sliwa & Ron Kuby) at the ABC affiliate station, WABC-New York.
But I know I heard it!
Also, when the USS Cole was hit, I just happened to be surfing the AP's international news headlines, and saw a tiny article about it there. I rushed to turn on the radio and TV -- but heard absolutely nothing about it reported on air for several hours.
bttt
Agree. And every time they get caught, they learn how not to do it the next time.
That sounds like the approach to the old Hong Kong airport.
I can understand why the MSM would be complicit in helping hide a Clinton failure. But why would they hide current attacks? (Just in general, not assuming this was one)
The only reason I can come up with is they fear the backlash while at first against Bush and Homeland Security, would ultimately keep Republicans in office as no one wants a Dem during the war.
Some one educate me. I feel like I am missing something here.
Frightening.
Many other incidents - the LAX airport shooting on 4th of July 2002, the Egyptian jet that nosedived in the Atlantic, etc. - can be added to the list.
Nothing can help justify the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism. To them, Bush is the enemy.
I plan on calling the station sometime this morning.
There's certainly more to it than we know. The same policy under two completely different administrations. I don't get it.
I heard it on ABC radio news at 7:00am est, and I was awake and driving. It said the pilot reported it to the tower while he could still see the rocket trail ahead of him. They reported the FBI saying it was probably a flare or bottle rocket. I, too said "At 6,000 feet???"! The description implied that the pilot saw the 'rocket' early enough to be able to make the radio call while it was still in site, so I was thinking he saw it coming up at him too...
I thought they said American Airlines, Los Angeles to Chicago flight. I too, have tried searching for information on that news story, and came up empty till your posting.
One possibility is that you heard it on a local ABC radio station, rather than on their national broadcast.
Some ABC radio stations in a cost-cutting move have been using generic news feeds from the same company which provides their local ABC traffic reports. The reporters might even identify themselves as ABC reporters for the individual station. That makes it difficult to differentiate them from real ABC reporters.
If that is the case, it would then be possible, though probably unlikely that the news/traffic service company reporter erred or misread a report off the wire.
Someone else on this thread also heard the report.
Must take a very large bottle to launch on of those puppies.
Thanks for coming forward and verifying what I had heard!
Whew.....
We need to stay on this story - even if there is a simple explanation.
on=one
Too much turkey, that's my story and I am sticking with it!
Well, this was the national ABC feed. You know, with the short, music intro. I dont recall the announcer's name, but the person was a female's voice that I recognize often on ABC radio news.
Nothing to see --- move along!
If that is accurate, then I would guess we could narrow it down to a few possible flights. Trying to look up flight schedules for aa right now.
