Unfortunately, anything that happens will result in the White House being blamed for Orchestrating events to influence polls. The Democrats and media do that so President must be doing it as well is their reasoning.
Personal comment. Money donated to Republican 527 organizations would stimulate more results if donors ask for them. These 527's have the money to make these things happen, while the RNC and state organizations are limited because of McCain/Finegold and various state laws. Also, personal appeals to various celebrities would help, as long as there is NO official Republican footprint on the suggestions or requests.
If a conservative author had such a skeleton, the "media" would not let viewers forget it!
I know Miss Lillian was really smart, and she said something to the effect that she wished she had been childless. With that Group I do not blame her, especially Jimmah.
Miss Marple, this isn't Bush's fight in total. I'm not trying to blame him for anything. At this point it's merely an observation that the left fields people who are ready for prime time and we don't. The House and Senate leadership need to get involved. Yes there is only so much you can do, but our side is not doing all they can.
If Hagel and company want to act like Democrats, let's take away their committee seats and stop backing them in their respective primaries. If they choose to go become Democrats, at least we'll be able to fight as a unified group for a change.
We have cooperated with these willing accomplicies of the left long enough.
"The only reason I can think of for GOPers not being more forceful and authoritative is fear"
Is it really just fear of losing the next election....or justa desire to dodge problem statements that they know will be thrown?
The libs are ready to lob blows about jingoism, attack anyone's personal validity based on their lack of military service....plus, the libs have no problem exploiting anyone who agrees with them, even active duty and fallen troops and their families.
We have a few who are up to the fight, Young from FL and of course Sam Johnson. DeLay gives as good as he gets.....but a lot of the others would rather appear silen and statesman like that engage.
You have a point, although I do think the President could legitimately ask Angelina Jolie to the White House. After all, he did meet with Bono, and Bono did a pretty fair job of standing up for the President's efforts in Africa.
And don't forget the nature of how you post the question. You can slant it and still make it appear nonpartisan. I don't believe any of these low Bush polls any more than I believed Clintoon polls in the 75% approval during his impeachment.
This is where they better be careful for what they wish for, the Dems have been used to the media covering up their horse manure in the past, but it is just that (in the past). The bloggers will take it and run with it asap. The new media is chomping at the bit.
One of the interesting things about Freeper. Amazing how many times a bad news story gets posted and reposted and how often I will find a important story a week old that no one though to post. When I do post a good news story it gets maybe 20 responses but a bad new thread will generate hundreds of hand wringing post about "Why doesn't Bush DO something"?
Why is it so many people who supposedly are "on our side" do nothing but dwell on the negative and NEVER help spread the positives?
Also find it curious that when the positives are brought up the usual crowd has to find SOMETHING negative to say.
What do you all think you accomplish with that behavior?

BROOK PARK, OHIO - Cpl. Stan Mayer has seen the worst of war. In the leaves of his photo album, there are casual memorials to the cost of the Iraq conflict - candid portraits of friends who never came home and graphic pictures of how insurgent bombs have shredded steel and bone. Yet the Iraq of Corporal Mayer's memory is not solely a place of death and loss. It is also a place of hope. It is the hope of the town of Hit, which he saw transform from an insurgent stronghold to a place where kids played on Marine trucks. It is the hope of villagers who whispered where roadside bombs were hidden. But most of all, it is the hope he saw in a young Iraqi girl who loved pens and Oreo cookies. Like many soldiers and marines returning from Iraq, Mayer looks at the bleak portrayal of the war at home with perplexity - if not annoyance. It is a perception gap that has put the military and media at odds, as troops complain that the media care only about death tolls, while the media counter that their job is to look at the broader picture, not through the soda straw of troops' individual experiences. Yet as perceptions about Iraq have neared a tipping point in Congress, some soldiers and marines worry that their own stories are being lost in the cacophony of terror and fear. They acknowledge that their experience is just that - one person's experience in one corner of a war-torn country. Yet amid the terrible scenes of reckless hate and lives lost, many members of one of the hardest-hit units insist that they saw at least the spark of progress. "We know we made a positive difference," says Cpl. Jeff Schuller of the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, who spent all but one week of his eight-month tour with Mayer. "I can't say at what level, but I know that where we were, we made it better than it was when we got there." It is the simplest measure of success, but for the marine, soldier, or sailor, it may be the only measure of success. In a business where life and death rest on instinctive adherence to thoroughly ingrained lessons, accomplishment is ticked off in a list of orders followed and tasks completed. And by virtually any measure, America's servicemen and women are accomplishing the day-to-day tasks set before them.

Actually, I think my Angelina Jolie idea has merit. She wants attention called to the Pakistani earthquake victims. Pakistan is an ally, and the President could use her voice to get the other nations off their duffs and sending more help. Seems like a win-win to me. She gets publicity and help for what she cares about, the Presidient gets to be seen with a Hollywood star and gets some air time. Brad Pitt gets PO'd. What could be better?
Chalk up one more post to Johnnie 'thousand notes', just not a single one on topic.
King from NY did a great job. Allen when he isn't trying to be in Statesmen mode. When he looked at Chucky Schumer, laughed and said He doubted the WH should take advice from Schumer, it was a priceless slap down.
Great post, we need more teamwork.
I should tell you that Angolina Jolie disgusts me on every level. The chances of me wanting her to help us ranks just about as low as me wanting Bill Clinton to represent us on any level.
She'd turn right around and make some anti-War comment from the pedistal we placed her on.
No thanks.
You are very right to be concerned/curious about this Murtha thingy...
I was watching the debate on the House floor on that Friday, that they voted 403-3 against withdrawing troops right now...
At the same time of the debate...FR had a thread started with an article about Murtha and bro being investigated for some shady doings re: the appropriations...
I said then...and I still believe that Murtha was put out there...so that between his military record and his presser asking for immediate withdrawal was in large part an "offensive" move...so that when/if the GOP persued said charges....
he and Pelosi could scream about another Joe Wilson scenario about the White House wanting to "get him" because of his message...NOT because of any wrongdoing that he "Might" have been involved in...
IOW...the dems are being their usual crooked lying selves.
If I didn't say so earlier, thank for this post. Good points...
The object isn't to get her to support the war. The object is to get the press to actually show the President. I bet it would work.
