Let 's see if Russert confronts Biden with this Wash.Post poll story
Seventy percent of people surveyed said that criticism of the war by Democratic senators hurts troop morale -- with 44 percent saying morale is hurt "a lot," according to a poll taken by RT Strategies. Even self-identified Democrats agree: 55 percent believe criticism hurts morale, while 21 percent say it helps morale.
The results surely will rankle many Democrats, who argue that it is patriotic and supportive of the troops to call attention to what they believe are deep flaws in President Bush's Iraq strategy. But the survey itself cannot be dismissed as a partisan attack. The RTs in RT Strategies are Thomas Riehle, a Democrat, and Lance Tarrance, a veteran GOP pollster.
Their poll also indicates many Americans are skeptical of Democratic complaints about the war. Just three of 10 adults accept that Democrats are leveling criticism because they believe this will help U.S. efforts in Iraq. A majority believes the motive is really to "gain a partisan political advantage." There is still support for Bush's policy going forward. A plurality, 49 percent, believe that troops should come home only when the Iraqi government can provide for its own security, while 16 percent support immediate withdrawal, regardless of the circumstances.
Is there anyone less important to the national debate than "Plugs" Biden?
Thanks AB
Biden and Koppel are part of a deeply entrenched D.C. elite that have enjoyed a decades-long pass from elite media, an absolution for idiotic statements, and an exemption from hard questions about those statements.
One of the reasons that Koppel's show has slowly fallen into irrelevance from which it was rescued only by distasteful explotiatation of the heroes of the GWOT is not the left-wing bias so much as its almost complete avoidance of hard questions and serious conversation about serious things. The same is true for Charlie Rose and Tim Russert and just about every wheezing talking head that used to matter. They don't press the left, really press the left.
If they did, of course, Joe Biden would shatter like the Christmas light ornament hitting the driveway. So would Koppel. So would they all.
..............The reason the House action of eight days ago was so warmly received by the GOP base --and so distasteful to the Beltway-- was that it refused to enable this cloistered left. By stripping the rhetoric to its bare essential --immediate withdrawal-- the Democrats and their pals with microphones and keyboards had to factor in clarioty and they ran for cover.
.............MSM would also benefit if it demanded of a new generation of anchors the sort of tough questions and editorial policies that reflect neither left nor right but a determination to force con men like Biden and Koppel to actually defend their absurd statements. The questions don't have to be intemperate or discourteous, just determined and informed. And though the hosts might have a few less dinner invites, the subscriptions and ratings would follow.
The usual suspects....
Meet the Depressed will hammer on the "latest" Allawi diatribe about how Human rights abuses in Iraq now are as bad, or worse, than they when Saddam Hussein was in power.
Biden and Warner will be "deeply concerned".
Bet on it.
This will be the MSM's new front in the War Against the Administration. They will begin their propoganda pieces tomorrow, with segments explaining to the public how RAT criticism is actually good for the troops and the war effort. After six weeks of hammering this point home, a new poll will be released showing the public supports RAT criticism and believes it good for the troops and the war effort.
"Efforts to establish a stable democracy" in Iraq
Will succeed - 56% public believe
Will fail - 63% media clerics believe
Going to war in Iraq
Correct - 48% public believe
Wrong - 71% media clerics
Iraq war has helped or hurt the war on terrorism
Helped - 44% public believe
Hurt - 68% media clerics believe
Torture of terrorist suspects
often or sometimes justified - 46% public believe
rarely or never justified - 78% media clerics believe
Bush's job performance
42% public approve
21% media clerics approve
To Fox's credit, they discussed this poll several times. But, their "media analyst" Marvin Kalb justified that "journalists" always skeptical and that 's why their view differs from public.
Well, 80% of public believe that gay marriage is wrong. 90% of people believe in God. 95% of people believe America is a great country and fee patriotic on July 4. These are facts. there is nothing to be skeptical about real facts.
Heartland America is not Pakistani Madrassas to indoctrinate their views on peoples' mind.
Thanks for the thread, AB, but I can't seem to work up much enthusiasm for listening to any of the guests.
Brit Hume, for example. I think that many on the left do not want to be interviewed by this ever polite, ever well informed man.
Yeah, his grapevine is usually nightmare for them.
Ugh...
Joe Biden on a Sunday talk show? Will wonders never cease...
I'm sooo happy to see something new on top of Breaking News.
Ahhh...makers of news.
Let's see. Conservatives are for McCain. Liberals like McCain. Centrists love McCain. Maveriks love McCain. Looks like McCain would come close to being elected by acclamation, in MSM's spin.
Then again, the Reality check here
Has Biden been on the Sunday shows more than McCain this year?
LOL. I know. I felt like I was in a time warp.
