I wonder how long they had been boyfriend/girlfriend if he didn't know she was allergic to peanuts?
Something is wrong with this story...

In the last year or so, there have been some items posted here about elementary school cafeterias banning any kind of peanut product whatsoever---even a student bringing something privately, in his or her own lunch from home.

Wasn't this on an episode of CSI?

I heard about this peanut allergy a while back. Some airlines have stopped handing out peanuts as snacks.
Speaking of anaphylactic shock and allergies, I know a lady who is allergic to olive oil!

I'm betting that that guy will never get a date again... More than likely, he'll date again, and have a normal life, and not feel guilty for what happened. There is no way he should be blamed.

Probably. I don't remember.

Wondering the same thing, do you think it might be that they were just declared heart attacks or unknown causes in the past?
In studying the familial history of a family that was disposed to a certain rare genetic disease, we found that causes of death were all attributed to cardiac arrest, not the disease which caused it, until later years when the specifics were identified.

Well, that's bureaucratic stupidity that just begs for civil disobedience. And, I would hope, gets it.

That was pretty much the gist of the posts on that thread. [I searched for it, but didn't find it.]

Why the hell are so many people suddenly allergic to peanuts? This was not a problem when I was a kid.My friends youngest son has an allergy to peanuts.
My friend was asking the same thing about where the hell this came from.
The doc gave some mumbo jumbo about people getting healthier but the body changing and some other crap.
For awhile he gave his son one shot for emergencies but now, gives him 2 emergency needles to carry.
Its really heart breaking watching a kid have to learn how to use a needle "just in case".

Tragic. Anyone with that kind of severe allergy must always have one of these around:

It might have something to do with peanut products used in more and more foods which can cause sensitization, esp. when fed to younger children. Just speculation...

Why the hell are so many people suddenly allergic to peanuts? There was a case in Maryland a few years ago where the mother sued, not just to make her kid's school peanut-free, but to force all the other kids' HOMES to become peanut-free as well. In the newspaper article, it said that her morning sickness had been so bad that the only thing she could keep down was peanut butter, and she ate a jar a day. Apparently it DOES cross the placental barrier, & sensitized the poor kid prenatally.

No. Wrong. Normal people should live normal lives and enjoy their PB&J sandwiches.
People with allergies need to carry with them, and know how to use, treatments to protect themselves - or they will eventually die ugly deaths in public. Sorry, that's the way it is; you can't avoid peanuts always and everywhere.
Or, they can stay home. They can choose - it's a theoretically-free country.

Interesting. As valid an explanation as any, I guess. How sad. I cannot imagine the stress of trying to raise a child with such an extreme and potentially deadly allergic reaction.

The article doesn't say if paramedics made it to the scene while she was still alive. We train for this all the time. I have had patient's giving themselves expired nitro and wondering why they were not responding and thought this must be "the big one". Her medication could have been expired and useless. It's hard to say. It's a tragedy for sure.

Kids are Kids, but I guess enjoying a PB&J sandwich is more important then some little kid dying.
Banning peanut butter from school is not some slippery slope nonsense, just commone sense.
