The private launch firm SpaceX will loft its Falcon 1 rocket on Nov. 25, marking the boosters maiden flight and hopefully the first of many space shots to come, the companys chief said Friday.
Elon Musk, founder and chief executive officer of the El Segundo, Calif.-based SpaceX, said his firms first Falcon 1 rocket will lift off from its equatorial launch site at 4 p.m. ET on a mission to orbit a small U.S. Air Force Academy satellite.
I actually dont feel nervous, I feel relief, Musk told reporters during a press conference. No matter what happens next week, this is something that is the first steppingstone in reducing the cost of access to space.

Thanks for the blurb Kevin. It will be interesting to see how they do. I wish them luck also.

Interesting:
a student-built satellite to measure space plasmas effect on Global Positioning System satellites and other space-based communications systems, according to the U.S. Air Force Academy

Well, I'll be. I had no idea the Air Force Academy taught satellite construction. I thought they trained Air Force officers.

I guess I won't brag about the mini-catapault I built. Especially since it didn't work worth a darn.

Musk, who also co-founded the electronic payment service PayPal, founded SpaceX short for Space Exploration Technologies in 2002 to offer low-cost commercial space launches. Cool, maybe someday I can buy a Merlin engine on E-Bay!

Update: The launch time is 4pm est. However, the webcast will only be able to the press only...

Air Force Academy satellite? Well one just has to follow recent news to know that it will be a satellite meant to force Christianity on others.
