Reiner Closes in on Calif. Ballot Measure (tax the rich)

Film director and Democratic activist Rob Reiner has collected more than a million signatures to get an initiative on the June ballot that would fund preschool for all California children.

Reiner's measure would increase income tax rates for the top 0.6 percent of income earners to guarantee a year of preschool for all 4-year-olds.

"We did this thing the right way. We brought business leaders and labor together to help draft the initiative," he said in a telephone interview after the announcement outside a San Francisco preschool.

The initiative would raise an estimated $2.4 billion a year by increasing income taxes by 1.7 percent for individuals who earn at least $400,000 a year, or couples earning $800,000. It also would increase training for preschool teachers and require that they be paid at the level of public school teachers in the same county.

~snip~The California Taxpayers' Association called Reiner's initiative a "massive tax increase proposal."

Reiner and another Democratic celebrity, Warren Beatty, have been suggested as possible contenders against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger next November, but Reiner said he's not applying for that job - yet.

Those Republicans who didn't show up at the polls for the special election had better show up for the next one, or bend over.......

What a great double whammy for the Libs. On the one hand you increase taxes on those meanies the rich and on the other hand you get children into the state run brain washing facility at a younger age.

Don't allow illegals in school and there would be a massive state surplus of funds.

I suppose reiner and others of his ilk will be exempted from this?

Soon to be followed by a mandate that all 4 year olds must attend pre-school?

And when it passes, next year's headlines:

California Rich Claim Nevada Residence in Large Numbers.

And then the socialist experiment will not be funded until some Tyrant in Black (aka a CA judge), passes a law that preschool must be funded from the "borrowed" budget.

I'm all in favor of Reiner for CA governor. You need someone to serve as an example of how not to do things. Might as well have an authentic liberal nutcase running the most liberal state in the Union, as opposed to a GOPer. Putting a liberal GOPer in charge just confuses things.

Schwarzenegger has balanced their budget. Now let Reiner take the blame for unbalancing it.

Of course. They're incorporated and officially earn no wages or salary, and thus avoid individual income taxes altogether.

The only good use I can think of for a scud missile.

Someone should shove his cigar down his throat and choke him.

BTW: Are Michal Moore and Rob Reiner related? They both suffer from the same mental deficiency.

I know that you think this has no chance in Heil of passing, but just to put the fear of God in you....

A similar measure on the State ballot here in Florida passed overwhelmingly last time around. If it passed in Fla., where we have a lot of elderly people who have no desire to see money spent on education, and where the low funding levels for the public schools proves that voters don't want more education spending, then it's a cinch that it will pass in CA.

Here in southern Oregon (Ashland) the wealthy from California have been moving here and building million-dollar homes. Housing prices have shot through the roof, as a consequence no business in their right mind will come here so average wages are low. Not only that but we've closed all but one elementary school - there are no more children.

The only result I see from this is more of the wealthy leaving Cal., bringing their liberal mindset with them and ruining our state.

It is the second part of your 'whammy' that is most important to the socialists...complete State control over your children. It worked in Russia, Nazi Germany; and it is working here.

"Soon to be followed by a mandate that all 4 year olds must attend pre-school?"

You betcha!

OTOH, many will think of this as nothing more than state-funded daycare, and vote for it accordingly.
Meanwhile, the "top 0.6%" will leave the state.

Or, in the case of Nissan, are already doing so!

Of COURSE this will pass! It only has a negative impact on .06% of Californians. The rest of the dumbasses will get free frikkin' pre-school.

This just makes my blood boil!!!!!!!
