Get a clue Church.
The US has had substantial forces in the Persian Gulf area since the oil shocks of the mid 70's, at the invitation of the oil producers.
How many lives do you wish to give up, and do cleanup after it goes to hell in a handbasket.
I suppose you want to personally decontaminate Isreal after the Iranians and Saudis get done.
You have to think strategically.
60 years of Cold war and I would be willing to bet you didnt bitch when the Conus was about to be nuked.
But then that's too many resources for security.
You didnt hear dick about the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines that kept Saudi Wahhabist for the intervening years post Gulf War 1. That war ended - when -1991.
WTF do you think the military has been doing since then; sitting on their thumbs?
The Cole, the bombings at Dharan, Somalia - how much crap do you want to take from 3rd world tinhorns?
The Persian Gulf countries want us there because we are their customers - we buy their oil.
It's not about oil- Its about keeping stability amongst the sand goblins, thats the whole reason we are there.
If they end up a democracy, versus a theocracy that's a plus.
Too much blood has been and will be shed in the AOR, the region is vital to our national interests to simply withdraw.
I dont suppose you would be content to live an agrarian lifestyle and ride a horse or an ass, your posts are not logical from a tactical or strategic military standpoint.
If you want the GI's out of Centcom's AOR, then you better get your ass busy inventing fusion and hydrogen fuel, and homegrown energy systems. Until then GI's will be there, there will be huge amounts of stored war readiness materiel and bases ready for GI's to return to, including Iraq.
Syria and Iran had better clean up their acts.
2000 lives is a pittance compared to deaths from medical malpractice and gangbanging in urban areas. Check the stats.
A young soldier is more likely to die at home on leave that in the AOR.
But you thing US military lives and national interests are meaningless and should be poll driven.
Enough of your drivel.

Also remember .. the President did mention vetoing this spending bill ... I'll be very surprised if he vetos this one. Even loaded with amendments, nothing pops up that is obviously objectionable.
The list of amendments is interesting tho'
- To repeal the requirement for the reduction of certain Survivor Benefit Plan annuities by the amount of dependency and indemnity compensation and to modify the effective date for paid-up coverage under the Survivor Benefit Plan.
- To strengthen civil-military relationships by permitting State and local governments to enter into lease purchase agreements with the United States Armed Forces.
- To establish limitations on excess charges under time-and-materials contracts and labor-hour contracts of the Department of Defense.
- To repeal the requirement for the reduction of certain Survivor Benefit Plan annuities by the amount of dependency and indemnity compensation and to modify the effective date for paid-up coverage under the Survivor Benefit Plan.
- To authorize a program to provide health, medical, and life insurance benefits to workers at the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site, Colorado, who would otherwise fail to qualify for such benefits because of an early physical completion date.
- To require the Secretary of Defense, subject to a national security exception, to offer to transfer to local redevelopment authorities for no consideration real property and personal property located at military installations that are closed or realigned as part of the 2005 round of defense base closure and realignment, and to clarify that the requirement does not affect certain property interests.
- To provide that veterans with service-connected disabilities rated as total by virtue of unemployability shall be covered by the termination of the phase-in of concurrent receipt of retired pay and veterans disability compensation for military retirees.
- To restate United States policy on the use of riot control agents by members of the Armed Forces, and for other purposes.
- To improve the availability to survivors of military decedents of information on the benefits and assistance available through the Federal Government.
- To authorize the United States Air Force Institute of Technology to receive faulty research grants for scientific, literary, and educational purposes. [???]
- To state the policy of the United States on the intercontinental ballistic missile force.
- To make available, with an offset, an additional $20,300,000 for aircraft procurement for the Army to increase the number of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to be procured in response to attrition from 2 helicopters to 4 helicopters.
- To require a study on the use of the Space Radar for topographical mapping for scientific and civil purposes.
- To amend the assistance to local educational agencies with significant enrollment changes in military dependent students due to force structure changes, troop [sic] relocations, creation of new units, and realignment under BRAC.
- To require a pilot program on enhanced quality of life for members of the Army Reserve and their families.
- To make available $80,000,000 for coproduction of the Arrow ballistic missile defense system.
- To provide for a Department of Defense task force on mental health.

this is a declared war"""
No it isn't Technically true, but it is a Congressionally authorized War, much the same as the first and second "wars" against the Barbary pirates, and the independent city-states of North Africa that supported them. There are many similarities in the two situations.

Not a threat to US security? I am amazed at the ignorance of people that say the things you say. This effort will save many lives in the future. Agreed.
For Churchillbuff to repeat such a stupid mantra, aka the Democrats loser leadership position, confirms this freeper is more an ignorancebuff than of the steady and foresighted Churchill who stood against tyranny, was unwavering in the face of danger and lead his nation to final victory.
The war against the barbarians ends one way.
With complete and total VICTORY.
There is no time-line but the utter defeat of the barbarians.
Defending civilization requires patience and endurance. Not ignorant freepers like that poster.

Also .. this is the bill that Kerry tacked on the amendment about the secret prisons and wanting to know who is in them, where they are and status reports to the Senate Intel Committee

No, and neither did Iraq. Never said they did, at least not directly. There's plenty of evidence that Saddam did support terrorists, even some evidence of an agreement with Al Qaida, whom Saddam had earlier been at odds with. Something to the effect of : "Leave us alone and we'll give you arms, training and refuge". Many of the Al Qaida and Taliban from Afghanistan were given such refuge after we, with our Afghan allies, drove them from Afghanistan.

Yes. Peace through VICTORY, not through appeasement, not through comprimise. Not through pulling out because liberals dont have the courage to see things through. Here is to VICTORY!

isn't this the bill that McCain stuck his protect the terrorist amendment on? McCain tried sticking that amendment to more than one bill.
The 90-9 vote was on S.Amdt. 1977 to H.R. 2863 (Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2006).
On this bill, McCain tried similar amendments as S.AMDT.1556 and S.AMDT.1557 back in July.

I take umbrage with Dudge's headline.
1) We won the Gulf War when we captured Saddam's Baghdad.
2) As for operations against Saddam's remaining IslamoFascists allies, have they agreed to our terms?
