Israel protests Hitler praise in Indian schoolbooks

NEW DELHI - Israel is planning to protest a western Indian state's move to include references in school books that glorify Adolf Hitler, a news report said Friday.

The Israeli Embassy is planning to communicate its displeasure to Gujarat state, appalled that the school textbooks "sing praises" of Hitler, the Indian Express reported.

The state is ruled by the Hindu rightist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Israel's Consul general in Bombay, Daniel Zonshine said the representation of Hitler in Gujarat's textbooks was "misleading".

"Personally, I feel offended, and publicly, the representation has caused anger and unhappiness at the twisting of facts," Zonshine was quoted by the paper as saying.

Zonshine said the protest could include writing to the state government. "We are exploring options, coordinating and exchanging views on this."

He added Israel plans to get the support of Germany. "It could also be a joint effort with the German embassy," he said.

The controversy concerns a Class X text book of the Gujarat Education Board that is silent on the Holocaust and glorifies Hitler. In a section on "Internal achievements of Nazism", the school book states; "Hitler adopted a new economic policy and brought prosperity to Germany. He made untiring efforts to make Germany self reliant within one decade".

The Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) has also demanded the textbooks be withdrawn, stating the books are full of prejudices and hatred towards religious minorities.

A brigadier-general by 1963 and a major-general by 1967, he was appointed chief of the Eastern Command in 1969 by Gen. Sam Maneckshaw, the Parsi chief of staff. Jacob's immediate superior was Lt. Gen. J.S. Aurora, a Sikh.

Pretty indicative of India's religious diversity: a military line of command with Parsis (Zoroastrians), Sikhs, Jews and I have no doubt quite a few Christians and Muslims in the army (along with Hindus of course!)

I personaly happen to know of a top ranking Indian Airforce official by the name George Judah (Jew). He saw action in 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak war. He is retired now and was one of the co-founders of the Symbiosis Institution in Pune.

The Gujarat state is ruled by a retard Narendra Modi who is a rabid Hindu fundie and who has sullied Hinduism. The Hindu fundies ruling Gujarat are poor in history and high on jingoism.

A important thing to note here:
Ariel Shiron also happens to be their hero (the way he fought the Muslims).

Interesting. Basically reinforcing what you just said about them being high on jingoism.

Very cool. Surprising when I first heard it, but now after you fine folks explained the context, not so much. Thanks for the info.

Very, very cool.

Just makes me that much of a bigger fan of India.

It is important and instructive to understand how Hitler got Germany out of a malaise to garner the power he did.

People forget the old "he made the trains run on time" line.

But that needs to be the context -- that he used an iron fist to revamp Germany and then used that fist to kill 6 million Jews (and Catholics and gays).

Proving, of course, that from the perspective of India, everything that goes on in the West or Middle-East is "different".

It's probably fruitless to expect Indians of any kind to have the same understanding of our stuff that we do.

The "Catholics" and "gays" stuff involves yet an additional 6,000,000, and mostly in Poland, Ukraine and Russia.

Concerning the "gays", he put some of them in charge of important components of the Nazi state. I know the gays would like for it to have been different than that, but it wasn't.

I wouldn't exactly consider the Linberghs "unbiased" regarding Hitler.

The far right-wing Hindus are all fascinated with Hitlers Aryan theories (Hindus are considered to be Aryans) and the Swastikas but at least they dont share the anti-Semitism.

And you would be interested in knowing that Israel in particular is most popular among the hard right-wing Hindus. (The harder they are the more popular Israel is.)

When the BJP came to power the first thing they did was to normalise ties with Israel. (BJP does not need to depend on the Muslims vote bank but in fact thrives on anti-Muslims sentiments.) In fact Israel evokes images of a country fighting Muslims on all sides. Its often quoted that if Israel can fight them then why cant we?

Well I dont think you should be generalising Indians over just one single incident.

There were others, so ad hominem argument re Lindbergs does not apply there: to prepare WWII Hitler simply HAD TO lift Germany from Depression era prostration. Major building programs [autobahns are probably the best known result] did a lot to dissipate the army of 6 million unemployed - and to cement his hold on the population, BTW.

Funny you should mention that. The Swastika was originally an Indian symbol (and the Nazi reversed it when they appropriated it). Plus, the Indians and the Iranians are the closest people to the original Aryans. The blond, lightly tanned skin Iranians with dark eyes are probably pretty close to what the original Aryans were like given what we know about them.

Interesting, though.

... the Narendra Modi government withdrew the ten-page chapter — 'Present Currents of World History' — where the German dictator was called a 'nationalist' and a 'socialist'.

Apart from the omission of the Holocaust, the chapter contains too much truth apparently - we know where nationalism and socialism end up, don't we?

We still use the Swastika as a religious symbol. Like for Christians it is the cross, from Muslism its the crescent, for Hindus its the Swastika.

From whatever I have read, the original Aryans weren't blond at all. The Vedas dont describe them as blond. The Vedas describe the "Arya" as wheatish coloured skin. The Vedas are probably the oldest book of the Aryans.
