I agree with what you are saying, however most people cannot form opinions based on facts if they don't have the facts given to them. Let's face it, most people, even most republicans are not reading places like Free Republic. Which is why the republicans and the president need to be diligent at getting the facts out there at every opportunity. Not to win a popularity contest, but to get and keep the right people in office.
It's about getting back to the basics -- everyone was waiting for this speech, loved it, and want to here MORE - and MORE OFTEN!!
The President has to be president -- that's his job -- that only he can do.
The more time he spends addressing all the petty arguments and concerns of the mass media, the less time, energy and attention is available to do his job, and that's what the Dems, libs, mass media wants.
The problem of propaganda is something an informed public can and must deal with -- by knowing how to see through these deceptions and manipulations -- and not by demanding that the president and administration tend to them. That is each citizen's job.
Fortunately, we have forums like this to discuss these things -- because that awareness is 90% of the task. We all recognize by now that the mass media will suppress these discussions so they can retain control of the information and communications in this society.
That's what these issues are fundamentally about -- and the unique way we rise to those challenges. They want us to continue to play their own game, on their turf, on their rules, with their referees, with their predetermined outcome. The triumph of the new is that we create wholly new ways that supplant the old status quo information control by understanding it. That understanding is already right action.
The Rasmussen Poll for today that is the subject of this thread was not originally quoted in context. It is a one day poll that shows Bush at 46% positive job approval. Scott Rasmussen is a conservative, not a liberal and his polls have been pretty accurate for years.
Here is the proper context for RasmussenReports.com's poll for today:
Bush Job Approval
Strongly Approve 23%
Somewhat Approve 23%
Somewhat Disapprove 15%
Strongly Disapprove 39%
And Rasmussen's unedited commentary on those results:
"President Bush Job Approval
Saturday November 12, 2005--Forty-six percent (46%) of American adults approve of the way George W. Bush is performing his role as President. Fifty-three percent (53%) of Americans Disapprove of the President's performance.
This is the President's highest Job Approval Rating in over a month. However, it remains to be seen whether this latest blip is anything more than statistical noise."
It might be a good idea if on your first day, you not call people here paranoid or insult other posters by saying they don't have a clue. Just a suggestion. It's up to you, of course.
Welcome to FR.
Now if the poll were taken using equal amounts of RATS and Republicans, and picked random, we should be with the President at about 65%. Polls are currently crap.
The Miers withdrawl turned this around. Had he stayed with her, his presidency would be effictively over. Now, he is out on the attack (great speech yesterday) and things will get back to normal. Now if only we could have a Republican Senate with a spine, things would be in good shape. I say keep Coburn, Brownback, Allen, and Santorum and get rid of the rest.
As the President has said, and I agree, these polls are a distraction, and not the basis on which thoughtful policy must be based on -- because they can be easily manipulated. That Rasmussen may be a legitimate poll is cover for all those that aren't. For every Rasmussen, there are a dozen CBS, Reuters, Associated Press Saturday night specials.
The constant, morbid attention to popularity polls, is the reason mass media is as awful as it is.
It's not that the President and Administration is not getting their message to the media. The problem is that the mass media is dishonest, deceptive and manipulative -- and no amount of effort is going to change that.
If polls move because people think the president controls hurricanes or gas prices, then, I'd rather not know.
You're a funny guy, newbie........or is that 'dude?'
But your confession that you're in the media explains a whole lot. You guys think you're moderate, even if you think Castro isn't such a bad guy.....
Good for you, Julie. I'll probably be getting the same call soon. Get your act together, Republicans, if you want our money....
I disagree. The national polls are very accurate and all one needs do to verify that is to compare their actual findings with actual election results...say the last Presidential election. Look at the final national polls before the election and compare them to the actual election results. You can do that here: http://www.pollingreport.com/2004.htm#Pollster
The overwhelming majority of the national polls from legitimate polling organizations were all within a plus or minus 3% margin of error.
We can also compare the national polls during weeks when President Bush was riding high in the same polls that he is lagging in today. For example, in early January, 2002, President Bush was at 83% positive/10% negative in the Fox News Poll, today he is at 36% positive and 53% negative.
CBS News had him at 84% postive and 12% positive on 1/4/02.
Zogby had him at 78% positive and 21% negative back then.
Gallup: 83% positive and 13% negative.
