Why what great news!  Women can start aborting their "fetuses" earlier than ever!  Why one might go so far as to say that women ought to be forced to have an abortion if this is discovered, yes, mandatory screening!  What disorder could we wipe out next?  "Cure" blindness?  Deafness?  Autism?

A glorious day indeed.

OK - get rid of defective babies earlier when they don't feel the pain. What about if a womyn doesn't get the test? Can she get rid of the kid after it's born? Just wondering...</Sarcasm>

A friend of mine has a child with DS. Its tough to deal with and I wouldn't wish it on any parent. If I had a choice I would want the test too.

In Canada the maternal serum screening (blood tests) are basically mandatory. I was told, on my birthday no less, that my first child was 80% likely to have Downs. He was born perfect six months later.

He's 11 and in the chess club.

Lovely. My sister-in-law's sister, was told, late on a Friday afternoon, that her triple screen results were of some concern, and she should call the doctor. She had a horrible weekend, and when she finally got through to the doctor, she was told something like, the usual chance of a Down Syndrome baby at your age is 1 in 400, and the tests show it's now 1 in 200.

I had a level 3 amnio, and the perinatologist started going on and on about Down's, and the things to watch out for, and I was getting so scared thinking he's going to give me the bad news, and finally he said to the effect: your chances were 1 in 100, now they're 1 in 400!

Just let the babies be born. Or live in the womb however long they're going to live. If these were search and save missions it would be one thing, but they're not, they're search and destroy. People would cope with a handicapped child after it was born, if they had a chance to learn how.

I have a 12 year old daughter with spina bifida. I didn't find out until I was 5 months along. It didn't matter to me, I never even thought about getting rid of her. The doctors were telling me to have an abortion but I would never do that. So they were all doom and gloom, telling me she would be brain damaged, or a vegetable, or on a resperator all her life, but we had her, and the only thing wrong with her is that she is in a wheelchair. She is in the 7th grade this year and is starting to notice boys ( pray for us on that one). I couldn't imagined her not being here.

This cuts both ways. Unfortunately I do not have enough time to respond fully. I will say this, I know of other couples that were told that they would have babies with DS. After extreme pressure from their doctors they decided to have the children. Guess what, the kids did not have DS. So much for no fault medicine.

God Blesses us with very special gifts. We must be adult enough to recognize that God has entrusted us with them. One person with DS teaches us more than a million liberals put together.

Down Syndrome Now Detectable In 1st Trimester.....

==============================================

When the same is true for homosexuality the democrats will cease to exist and fall to in-fighting between the gay and feminist factions.

We are all waiting with bated breath for the news that medical science can discover the "gay gene" at 11 weeks so that women can decide whether they wish to abort. I'll bet that wouldn't get too much fanfare....

"By the time you're 20 weeks pregnant, most women will be feeling fetal movement. We wouldn't want to underestimate the psychological or emotional difficulty of undergoing pregnancy termination that late," Malone said. "Also, at that point it's easy to tell by looking at the woman if she is pregnant. This way she can make her decision in utmost privacy."

Delightful quote from further down in the story. Isn't it terrible when that inconvenient "fetus" starts kicking in the womb? Gives women unnecessary guilt when they make the "decision" go off to kill it.

Liberal decisions: Hmm...what shoes will I wear today? Do I eat cake or cauliflower? Should I kill my offspring or graciously allow it to live?
