Concord — A New Hampshire commission established to help Killington secede from Vermont and join New Hampshire didn’t have much to discuss at its first meeting yesterday.

That’s because Vermont hasn’t established a similar commission to work out the details, and strongly opposes secession.

Regardless, commission Chairman John Hunt insists the New Hampshire panel’s existence sends a clear message to Vermont — or any other state — that citizens have a right to seek other alliances if their complaints aren’t addressed.

“They (Vermont officials) might see this as a joke. I don’t,” said Hunt.

It's a little more complicated than that. In 1997 the Vt Supreme Court decreed that the school districts must be equalized. To do this, for a while the legislature was going to impose a two-tier tax structure...a higher one for out-of-state property owners, a lower one for year-round residents. They ended up robbing the towns actually making money to fund those that weren't.

Actually, Lincoln never recognized the sovereignty of the Confederacy, or that the Southern states had even seceded. Lincoln simply did whatever he wanted, and made up arguments to support whatever actions he took, regardless what the Constitution said.
-He suspended habeus corpus, without Congressional vote (clearly listed in the Constitution as Congressional, NOT presidential, authority). When the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, named Tanney, came down with a ruling that Lincoln's actions were unconstitutional, Lincoln ordered the Chief Justice arrested. -Lincoln ended freedom of the press by presidential fiat. First, he sent Union troops to burn down the newspaper offices. When that proved unpopular, he sent federal troops to arrest the newpaper editors. His final tactic was to order the US Mail not to delivery papers for those newspapers that printed nasty things about him. During the war, about 300 northern newspapers were shut down.

The only island of sanity in New England at the current time is NH.

As "collectivist" as they are, the citizens of Vermont are also staunchly independent, and have one of the lowest murder rates in the nation, even though ANY citizen can carry a weapon openly, WITHOUT a permit of any kind.

The Vermont State Government does not automatically assume that all citizens are potential criminals, unlike NY, Mass., Conn. and their New England ilk.

This despite the fact that Massachusetts and NY liberals are currently heavily polluting, by migration, the (2 or 3) individualist bastions to their North. Both Vermont (Leahy, Jeffords) and "Live Free or Die" (nice words) New Hampshire (is Judd Gregg still a force there?) will eventually succumb to northeastern liberalism, which will be a tragedy, since the old residents will get bullied into "gun control" and its related Marxist programs...

I'm not sure what the Socialist pollution levels are like in Maine, but judging by Olypia Snowe and her Senatorial sister, that cancer must be quite pervasive...
