State of Emergency Begins in France
Fox News ^

PARIS — Rioters defied a state of emergency that took effect Wednesday, as they looted and burned two superstores, set fire to a newspaper office and paralyzed France's second-largest city's subway system with a firebomb.

However, the number of car burnings — a barometer for the unrest — dropped sharply, suggesting the movement lost steam. Overnight Tuesday to Wednesday, youths torched 617 vehicles, down from 1,173 the previous night, national police spokesman Patrick Hamon said. Incidents were reported in 116 towns, down from 226 the night before.

President Jacques Chirac announced extraordinary security measures, which began Wednesday and are valid for a 12-day state of emergency, clearing the way for curfews after nearly two weeks of rioting that began in neglected and impoverished suburban neighborhoods with large Muslim communities.

The French capital and its suburbs, as well as more than 30 other cities, were covered by the state-of-emergency decree, according to a government bulletin published Wednesday. It empowers officials to put troublemakers under house arrest, ban or limit the movement of people and vehicles, confiscate weapons and close public spaces where gangs gather.

Towns included on the list stretched from Nice on the Mediterranean to Strasbourg on the German border and Le Havre on the English Channel, giving an indication of how widespread the unrest has become.

Firebombs hit French Subway, newspaper offices torched.

All part of the new advertising campaign?

Two weeks and they haven't taken any decisive action! Were a similar situation happening in the US, i'd imagine Bush would have sent in the national guard armed to the hilt by day two at the latest.

Cool. That means that when I read about the Louvre going up in flames, the Eiffel Tower being cut up into scrap metal and Notre Dame being reduced to road building material, I'll know the wind is really out of their sails.

If I was really letting fly with how I feel, I'd be striking Chirac across the face with an iron gauntlet repeatedly to beat some sense into the idiot.

This is a rebellion by Islamists. Crush it without mercy. Then maybe the Islamists will understand that there are lines they cannot cross without ending up dead.

Regards, Ivan

starfish, if i read your post correctly, you could not be more wrong. islam could care less about material things, this is not about having, its about conquering in the name of their god.
Ah yes, I forgot. Muslims are the ultimate altruists. All for God.
They are different than the rest of the human race throughout history. They DON'T crave money, power, land, etc. No greed, no lust for power and certainly no maniacal hatred there.
Wealthy Muslims don't live in luxury buying all those "material things." How silly of me.

and btw, how utterly ridiculous to assuage our own idiocy, ie the wests, by allowing these people into our homes in order to HELP them. love would mean you make them help themselves, by themselves, for themselves. with help of course.
I forgot yet again. That line on the Statue of Liberty about "Send us your poor huddled masses" is just a joke.
We really do get the world's BEST, wealthiest, most educated. We don't get felons, attackers, poor, sick, unemployable. We get the creme de la creme.
Those mean ole Minutemen at the Mexican border are trying to keep out such wunnerful folks.

Thanks for jogging my memory.

When the Jihadis get active, you're on your own. Neighborhood defense committees had best organize fast, because help won't be coming too quickly. Of course, if a couple of rioters get shot, hung, and burned, the police will come a little faster. Can't have neighborhoods protecting themselves now, can we?

this looks more and more like a test of French Gov - what they will do if we do X..setting France up for the big punch after learning how they respond..much like the terrorists flying pre 9/11 to see how we respond to various carry on weapons..box cutters were OK.

Babelfish Translations:

Belgium:

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Several vehicles were burnt for the third consecutive night in Belgium where the authorities evoke a contagion of urban violences which have made rage for 13 nights in France. No riot on the other hand was announced and the authorities ensure that they are isolated cases. A car, a bus and a truck were thus reduced in ashes in Antwerp. A car was also burned in Ghent, and another in Lokeren, semi way between the first two cities. Lastly, several vehicles were damaged by jets of kingpins in Brussels. "It acts rather clearly of a counterpart of the Parisian events implying some young people", declared the police chief of police force Steven De Smet, on the antenna of the radio VRT.

Germany:

BERLIN (Reuters) - Several vehicles were burnt in Berlin and Cologne, fact knowledge the German police force, evoking a counterpart of the riots which have made rage for soon fifteen days in France. Three cars and a motor bike thus were burned in the popular district of Wedding, in the north of the federal capital, specify the police force. Witnesses thereafter announced two other burnt vehicles. Five had been flarings two nights earlier in the district close to Moabit. Four other cars, of which two were seriously damaged, knew the same fate Tuesday evening in Cologne, in the district of Bocklemüd.

Failing that a couple hundred pounds of explosives* under the seat should catch a bunch of 'rioters' by surprise while they stand around admiring their handy work.

*wrapped with bacon, of course.

FOX is turning into cable's PEOPLE magazine with all the twits doing missing women and children shows.

With the Belchway Boyz et al commenting on Washington's latest who-cares-Gate, SkooterGate, I haven't been watching much FOX.

Oh, I almost forgot Sheppy Smithy and his cocked eyebrow show -- 5-second reporting on 10,000 items per show, with 10 seconds of music and graphics to introduce each segmentette. What zee 'ell is the "g-block" anyway and who zee 'eck cares?

"I guess we'll have to wait a few more days, to know if the riots are dying out."

They are just getting their second wind. One can't riot all night and celebrate all day.

Did anyone see that slime-slug from Paris Match on Fox this morning? I wanted to reach into the TV screen to choke that idiot. He refused to answer any question, and just spewed a non-stop endorsement of socialism and appeasement, and even found a way to bring in the name of Rosa Parks to defend the rioters.

I wonder how far behind them we are. 2, 3 decades maybe?

IMO, it won't even be that long. There are a lot of muslime appeasers in this Country..we are headed for disaster.

We are already supporting, in various ways, a vast majority of illegals..and "the unfortunate poor" of many countries that hate us..particularly mexicans and muslimes..all of them blaming the USA for what ails them...nope, it won't be long at all.

"No, this isn't the end of France. The U.S. and Britain would re-invade before allowing a Muslim revolution to overthrow the French Republic"

Only as long as it takes to secure France's Nukes....then after that...leave France to the Jihadists!
