Soros-Backed Reforms Fail in Ohio
News Max ^ | Nov. 8, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

A group of election reforms backed by liberal Daddy Warbucks George Soros has crashed and burned in Ohio, leaving Democrats unable to capitalize on a year's worth of complaints that the state's 2004 presidential vote was rigged.

Voters soundly rejected the four Soros-backed proposals, which would have overhauled the way Ohio runs its elections.

The initiatives would have opened absentee balloting to all voters, lowered the cap on individual campaign contributions and put boards, instead of elected officials, in charge of drawing legislative and congressional districts and overseeing the state's elections, according to the Associated Press.

With 25 percent of the returns tallied, the AP said the absentee ballot question was trailing 61-to-39 percent; the campaign contribution cap was losing 64-to-36 percent; and redistricting and election oversight were both trailing 67-to-33 percent.

Story Continues Below

A coalition of unions and other Democrat-leaning groups organized under the name Reform Ohio Now wanted to wrest control of elections from Republican state officeholders. Critics said the ballot measures would empower special interests and encourage fraudulent voting.

According to Ohio's Journal News, three of RON's major donors are organizations funded by Soros.

I feel your pain concerning California. It may have reached a point of no return to reality for this LEFT coast state. How so many whack jobs could be in one place is beyond me until I look at the northeast which is no better. I know they want to secede, but can we kick them out first? :>)!

It's good to see the lib-socialists trashed in an election. How does this victory portend for electing a conservative governor in '06?

Want to ensure there is no voter fraud here in Ohio? Make it manditory that a person must show valid identification at the polls prior to voting. Neither my wife, nor I, nor anyone else that we saw while we were there, were required to identifiy themselves in any manner other than verbally give a name. That's inexcusable, and almost seems criminal to me.

All states should have this law and a valid driver's license with picture ID on it be shown at the time of voting. This is not done in most areas because you have the blacks screaming they can't afford a car so why have Driver's license but I know most states have it set up to go and get a state issued ID for five bucks. So where is the whine after this ?

Peter Lewis of Progressive Insurance was probably also involved. Another Capitalist who made his money on the backs of the poor trying to exert his influence. Did Progressive cover your Insurance claim properly?
