Thanks. Somehow that bit of news didn't quite make it down here to Alabama before now...
Aside from Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro, no Conservative won.
As far as I can tell, no non-incumbent Republican won.(I get the feeling that Bloomberg was a net loss. A lot of Republicans failed to come out and vote after seeing Bloomberg up ~40% in the last poll.)
Pat Russo (R-C) lost to the incumbent councilwoman Gentile in the 43rd CD (Brooklyn). Philip Foglia (R-C) lost to Democrat James Vacca in an open race for the 15th. The retiring Democrat-Conservative Councilman endorsed Foglia.
In my hood (the upper east side) the Liberal Republicans lost open races. In the 4th CD, Dan Garodnick (Dem) beat Pat Murphy (Rep-Liberal-Ind), even though the former Log Cabin President appeared with Bloomberg and had volunteers. Likewise Jessica Lappin (Dem-WFP) trounced Dr. Joel Zinberg (R-Liberal-I) in the 5th CD.
I await the full results for a proper post-mortem.
Russo lost ;-<
But the result everyone was waiting for was those surrounding the re-election of Marty Markowitz...
"Incumbent Marty Markowitz won again in Brooklyn. He easily won over Republican Theodore Alatsas, 79 to 13 percent."

The ads were brilliant. I walked by a playground on the upper east side and heard a group of six toddlers singing them!
Admit it. You've found yourself singing them on the way to the subway...
MartyMarty Markowitz, MartyMarty Markowitz. MartyMartyMarkowitz. Marty Markowitz.
Liberal or conservative, he's the last of a long line of old time, old style NY pols. Once he's gone, I'm afraid that's it.
The thing to watch in the next 24 months is the way they push the stadium through in brooklyn.
I agree, Bloomberg had negative coattails here in the 4th CD. Patrick Murphy's Trouncing at the hands of Garodnick was a real disappointment. Murphy should have done better than a 65-35 loss. He campaigned actively and was more present on the street than Garodnick. I think that Republican turnout was light.
As an example, I'd guess that George Bush got close to 1/2 the vote on my machine in 2004 (which is sky-high for you non Manhattanites out there). I went to vote on the way to work yesterday at 8:00am, normally a busy time at my polling place, and was able to get on the machine right away. There was only one old man in line behind me.
Hey it could be worse: Bubba Clinton could have been running.
Yea, sucker, he's not a real Republican, except for that cool $7 million he donated to the RNC.
P.S. -- There's no such thing as "conscience" in a Dim.
ABC radio reported yesterday that Bloomberg spent $82 million on this race...can that be true? I'd think that $8.2 million woul dbe outrageous enough, but $82,000,000???
Bummer, huh? I met both of them and Gentile was extremely reluctant to mention his party affiliation. Russo was proud to say he was a Republican and was much more down to earth and real.
It's a shame Russo lost. And I thought Bay Ridge was a conservative enclave in NYC...
Should we be happy that a liberal RINO buys a mayor "victory" for $80 million?
What has Bloomberg done that advanced any of the GOP's agenda?
Only thing I can think of is that he cracked down hard on the crazies "demonstrating" at the GOP convention in NYC last year.
If he hadn't, we might've seen riots like we saw last week in Argentina.
Please excuse me. I know it's a victory for the GOP but I just can't get excited about Bloomberg...
This victory looks better when you look at it from the fact that Bloomberg clobbered the Clinton's candidate. That brings a smile to my face and I don't even like Bloomberg that much.
Yes, the $82 mil is the correct number.
