This is a night of the status quo, as far as I can tell. One creepy Democrat replaces another in New Jersey. One mediocre Democrat replaces another in Virginia (Warner was D, no?). Ohio election laws remain the same. Marriage is still heterosexual in Texas.

Based on all that, I'd say the governator's agenda for change is going to take a beating in Cauli-fornia.

Wait and see on CA. I can't imagine the abortion notification ballot losing, even in lib Cali.

Staus quo it is.

Thanks for the update.

I was hoping for a scorecard. One thing to add: it appears VA may have a GOP Lt. Gov, which is a gain (and should prove for some interesting times.)

What's on the plate for CA? They're the last of national interest, right?

Well, New Jersey elected Corzine, who apparently figured out that being a Senator in the minority party wasn't a lot of fun. Why NJ voters voted for that silly guy is beyond me. NJ has the highest property taxes in the country, yet the populace elected a typical tax and spend liberal who just happens to have a few million. I don't live in NJ, but it's sort of a shame since Lautenberg probably has some difficulty purchasing life insurance.

Virginia did indeed elect another centrist Democrat, although the Republican was not a very good candidate. Neither was NJ's Forrester for that matter.

It is a shame about California initiatives if they fail. I'm hoping at least two pass.

Maybe.

But I'm noticing between the OH amendments, TEXAS Marriage amendment, Kaine winning on a conservative campaign that the trend seems to favor conservative positions. No, Kaine isn't a conservative, but he certainly benefited from perception. Cali may pull out a few surprises yet if the trend extends there. The only oddball so far is N.J., but Forrester didn't run as a conservative. He had some conservative positions, but ran as Dem lite. So they chose the real thing.

Right on! I don't know how two governor's elections which stay as they were before, is a loss for the GOP. That's so short sighted and formed out of total ignorance of recent events.
