French police made 395 arrests last night as riots intensified for the 11th consecutive night, with violence and fire engulfing towns from the North to the Mediterranean.
In the impoverished suburbs and satellite towns around Paris, where the unrest began on October 27, churches, schools and warehouses were set alight. At least 1,408 vehicles were destroyed, many more than on previous nights, and the random attacks have spread into the heart of the city.
In Grigny, south of the capital, a gang of around 200 youths are reported to have lured police into a housing estate before opening fire with hunting rifles. At least 30 officers were injured, two seriously with lead pellets in the legs and neck.
Riots broke out in beacons of disaffection across the country from Lille, on the border with Belgium, to Montpellier on the Mediterranean coast. In Toulouse, police used tear gas to disperse a mob. Cars were set alight on the streets of Nantes, Orleans, Rennes and Rouen, and youths in St Etienne forced passengers off a bus before burning it. Churches were set ablaze in northern Lens and southern Sete.

In Strasbourg, youths stole a car and rammed it into a housing project, setting the vehicle and the building on fire. "Well stop when Sarkozy steps down," the defiant 17-year-old driver told an Associated Press reporter.
Police are calling for a night-time curfew in affected areas and some senior officers have demanded that troops are brought on to the streets.
Michel Gaudin, France's most senior police officer, said today: "We are witnessing a sort of shock wave that is spreading across the country."

LOL. Ain't that the case. It will be interesting when the MSM finally finds a reason to blame America and W. And they will...
HAHAHA...
Villepin is suggesting a ceasefire...
No kidding..
White flag indeed.
"Vicomte13 says this has absolutely nothing to do with islam, and he/she is in France."
No, I am currently in Connecticut.
My family are in France, including Bondy and Clichy s/s Bois.
I don't have access to the Villepin speech but heard he was permitting locally ordered curfews. Did he mention how these curfews would be enforced?
"Chirac will fire Sarkozy to appease the Muslims and declare victory."
Chirac will probably not fire Sarkozy. Sarkozy is the head of the UMP, Chirac's and Villepin's political party. If Chirac were to fire Sarkozy, it would open up a civil war within UMP, and Sarkozy would probably win the battle given how weak Chirac now is. That would leave Villepin without any party base and cripple him. It would also leave Chirac a lame duck.
No, Chirac and Villepin will keep Sarkozy, their enemy, very close to them, right there in the cabinet, and taking all the blame for everything that goes wrong.
Basically a democrat party plant. You will hear them all the time on C-Span, "I have voted Republican all my life, but Bush is the worst thing that ever happened to this country, yada, yada, yada".
The guy Steve was a seminar caller, the only difference is that Steve claimed he was calling from France. I doubt that, the call was very clear and given Steve's pronounced midwestern accent, I doubt Steve speaks French.
FR and Rush I think some 5 years ago or so produced a memo from such a seminar, where the democrats held seminars around the country, to teach the democrat faithful on how to get their talking points on talk radio.
The harsh crackdown has begun!
The local authorities are threatening an unjust CURFEW!
The inhumanity and barbarism of the French government has finally been exposed. I am gonna bust a gut laughing when the mobs ignore the curfew, and pants the local gendarmes.
"Those shots could have killed somebody, but clearly there's not a mass, armed movement going on here."
Seriously? I don't doubt it though.
Proof positive that this is a political game for the government.
It's like Chris Rock said (to paraphase), "Whites like Blacks like they like cream in coffee, just a little, not too much..." I can't remember.
You've heard the French press has agreed to suspend the "car count"?

I understand the French government is blaming it on BUSH.
The BBC broke away fairly early... I think they were emarrased on Villepin's behalf..
So I have no idea on any eforcement of the curfews...
I think the closest Villepin got while he was still broadcast was that he suggest the parents of the youth should consider giving their childres a strict talking to...
France is becoming one huge Potemkin village.
No problem. All that the rest of us have is a little red x
