Eagles Have Heard Enough: Owens Suspended Indefinitely
NBC-5 ^ | November 5, 2005

Posted on 11/05/2005 9:58:39 AM PST by NewMediaFan

Philadelphia Eagles controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens has reportedly been suspended indefinitely due to conduct deemed detrimental to the team.

Owens has also been battling a severely sprained ankle, which put his availability for this week's game in jeopardy. However, after missing Wednesday's practice, Owens was upgraded from doubtful to questionable and it appeared he would be ready to go.

According to 610 WIP in Philadelphia, though, head coach Andy Reid decided to suspend the enigmatic wideout for numerous comments he has made about the organization this week.

The radio station, however, did not report how many games Owens would miss, but it is certain that he will not play in Sunday night's key divisional contest against Washington.

Earlier in the week, Owens made comments about how the organization "lacked class" after not recognizing the fact that he caught his 100th career touchdown pass in an October 23 game against San Diego. Owens also claimed that the team's comment of allegedly forgetting about the milestone touchdown was a "blatant lie" and it insulted the receiver.

Philadelphia does not typically honor individual achievements on the scoreboard or stop the game to celebrate an accomplishment.

Then, in the same interview, Owens addressed the team's quarterback situation and stated that the Eagles would have a better record and even perhaps be undefeated if All Pro Brett Favre was under center opposed to Donovan McNabb.

However, on Friday, Owens delivered a written apology for his remarks.

"I've had the opportunity to talk with the Eagles organization, and I have learned the team does not recognize individual achievements," Owens uttered. "It has been brought to my attention that I have offended the organization and my teammates. Therefore, I would like to apologize for any derogatory comments toward them."...

if the Eagles waive Owens

They won't. Either he falls in line, shuts his mouth and plays for the Eagles, or he doesn't play anywhere.

They're not going to budge on this. And TO isn't going to shut up.

He's finished for the '05 season.

Suggestion for T.O.:

Learn the facts before you start running your mouth.

T.O. is a poster child of what is wrong in American professional sports.

He has been blessed with awesome skills, but he is a selfish classless turd.

Andy Reid is correct here.

The NFL doesn't need T.O., he NEEDS them.

As an Eagles fan I have pretty much written off this season. McNabb is seriously off with that injury and the playcalling (averaging 40 passes a game) doesnt help. Its too bad Owens is such a poor human being, he can really play the game.

Good riddance.

Umm he has a superbowl ring and has his team tied for the division lead... he seems to be doing ok..

Umm...he inherited the Super Bowl™ caliber team, managed to completely drive it into the ground, and now shares the lead in an absolutely pathetic division.

In my book, a quality coach does not go to the Super Bowl in year one, and then fail to make the playoffs every year thereafter.

But hey, if you think he's a great coach, that's super.

Of interest, T.O. was the biggest reason for the Eagles getting back in Sunday's game. I think he has had it with Donovan's weekly publicity about being hurt in game one but in the two weeks after that, he set several passing records. T.O. figures so much for the hurt.

Philadelphia is the 'I'm hurt' town, football or basketball. Maybe Green Bay doesn't moan as much. Also as Rush found out, it is a no-no to criticize Donovan.

Owens sits on the field bench about an hour before playing against the Cincinnati Bengals in this Aug. 26, 2005 photo, in Philadelphia...

The star receiver apologized Friday in a statement and later on his weekly radio show, but the damage already was done. The Eagles issued a statement that said Owens was suspended "for conduct detrimental to the team."

I wish Andy Reid and the Eagles well..

TO needs to be Taken Out behind the woodshed and "re-educated".

He is supposed to catch bombs, not toss them at his own team.

Has there been a week McNabb was a better fantasy QB than Brees?

Yea, the week McNabb scored 51 fantasy points. Highest score of any single player this year. It was either week 2 or week 3. He threw 5 TD passes.

"The Raiders would be a good fit for him."

The Raiders don't have enough mustard for two hot dogs like Moss and Owens.
