David Rodham Gergen. I wish he'd hack up that big booger that's hanging down the back of his throat and get it over with.

***you're (Bush) making it harder for the press secretary, Scott McClellan, to do his job.***

Just my useless opinion, but I say fire McClellan (just on principle) - he's a blubbering, bumbling fool and borderline moron. Probably the worst Press Secretary in history. And whomever recommended him for the job is undoubtedly on the DNC payroll.

I read similar pledge in US News, where Gergen serves as editor at large. I switched from Time to US News because I didn't want to give money to a magazine that is too much liberal. For a while, US News as okay. Now, I cancel my subscription. Internet provides enough good news and articles.

It is usually a real bad idea to accept and follow advice given by your political enemies. However, here is an exception to that rule:

The Democrat Party would vastly improve its chances for the long term if it lanced and drained a fat, pus-filled boil on its body politic, a boil named Clinton (him and her). It is clear the Party will not follow this advice. But it would be good for that Party and for the nation, if it did so.

Rove, I'm told, got teary-eyed when talking about how Bush and White House staffers have stood by him.

I'v often wondered what Rove's advice is about illegal immigration and the border.

Gergen works for the Democrats. The notion that he is non-partisan is pure eyewash.

So Kristol and Barnes are noth urging the Bush WH to fight back.

That would at least distinguish his from his father's administration.

The only way to break throught the nedia filter is to go quite extreme, however, lest your battles be squelched by the monolithic Washington Press Corps. Bush needs a significantly more aggressive style.

Bush needs Rove to keep reminding him that neither the press nor the Washington establishment are his friends.

Fred Barnes has become one of the top Conservative writers in the Country. He understands Bush better than any other writer, period. Excellent advice.

This is an excellent column. Fred Barnes is continuously on the mark. The inside Washington establishment cannot get over the fact that Bush ignores their narrow minded, and out of touch "advice".
I'm not sure what has prompted the anti-McClellan focus on this thread. Fred barely mentions him. For some reason Freepers think people actually watch Whitehouse press conferences. Are you kidding me? And what in the world makes anyone think you could put someone as wise and eloquent as Bill Buckley up on that podium and prompt anything more than the usual BS from the press corps. If McClellan truly is as boring and unhelpful as everyone says, I say Great! I hope the WH press corps hates every second of the time it spends with him. Their stories are already written anyway.

W needs to hire Dan Senor (of Iraq fame) to be his press person. He is AWESOME--brilliant, articulate, quick on his feet and fearless. He could take down the WH press corps in short order.

The MSM trot out Gergen all the time as a "Republican" balance on panel shows. What a load! He's now a Democrat.

You don't see them trotting out Democrats who've changed to Republicans and calling them Democrats.

Wouldn't you like to see Zell Miller on a panel as a Democrat representative?

I find David Gergen to be unsufferable to watch. I turn the channel everytime he shows up.

President Bush SHOULD clean out some folks, not to placate calls from Democrats, but instead replace them with firebrand Conservatives with their ear to the Base, and finish up with a strong second term agenda:

- Replace McClellan with Tony Snow

- Replace Rove with Peggy Noonan

- Replace Rumsfeld with Tommy Franks

- Replace Chertoff with Tom Tancredo and give him free reign

- Seal the borders and enforce immigration laws, then talk Guest Worker Program in a couple years

- cut spending 10% across the board and hold it there for 3 more years, demand Washington find savings/efficiency instead of asking for more

- Declare a national movement toward energy independence, 50% in 10 years and 100% in 20

- Get a Declaration of War from Congress, mobilize the country to win it and fight to win it globally

Be a President for your Base, Mr. President, and we'll be there for the Party in '06 and '08. As El Rushbo says, Conservatism wins everytime it's tried, but not when it's watered down.

If I were Bush, I would hire Gergen and Pat Buchanan. Don Corleone was right when he said," Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer". Reagan did, of course he knew there was more wisdom to be had in Hollywood film than, " Win one for the Gipper".
