I think the word "negro" is a really good word because Andy Rooney having said it on national radio will likely lose his job over it.

Let Andy choose to use this language on air and see if the CBS executives get "the buckwheats" (in Dan Rather's memorable words)

Negro is Spanish for black. It's the derivative that's the the problem.

Seems like Andy and Dave Chappelle are in agreement - I see Chappelle use this word all the time.

I play Scrabble and Negro is disallowed. I agree with Rooney, what is wrong with that word. It's no different than Caucasian

Well the word is in the dictionary:
Ne·gro
1. A Black person. See Usage Note at black.
2. A member of the Negroid race. Not in scientific use.

It is what blacks called themselves for a generation here. We have gone from Negro to black to African American.

I've looked and looked, but I can't find the article at Drudge.
Do you have a more direct link?
To: rj45mis
Correct....another example is spic which is an unflattering derivative of Hispanic.
To: new yorker 77
He would have been better to go with "black."

There is no link, just a blurb on drudgereport.com:
'I have a problem with the term African American...The word negro is a perfectly good word. There is nothing wrong with that'
Andy Rooney on Imus 11/4/05, MSNBC, 8:45am ET
It's just under the drudge report logo and to the left.

Why can't we all just call the blacks white? After all, we don't call bums bums, we call them homeless.
Lunatics are called mentally challenged, or Democrats.
Black is white, white is black and we will never have to utter the N word again. Either ni**er or ne*gro.
There ... all better now Yankee? ;)

Negro is Spanish for black. It's the derivative that's the the problem.Could be, then again with niger being the latin word for black, that's a possibility also.

Click your refresh button on the Drudge page, Mary. It's not linked, just a typed item in the left column, exactly as posted here.
