Senator Specter's timetable for the Confirmation Hearings for Samuel Alito not to begin until January 9 at noon, is a slap in the face to the Republican Party. As a Conservative, and a new resident of Penn., I look forward to voting against this piece of trash. But unfortunately, it'll take too long to clean the republican party of Spectert's filth.
Someone PLEASE TELL ME this is just a bad dream.
Let Specter know what you think!!!

Sam, he was just reelected to a 6 year term. He is about to keel over. I don't think you will have the pleasure of voting against him again.
The White House, as you know, is interested in having the matter concluded by the end of the year. I do not know that that is realistic. I do not know that that is unrealistic. What I do know is that we're going to do it right, and we're not necessarily going to do it fast.
If it can be done within the time frame by the end of the year and done properly with an opportunity to review Judge Alito's record and have the kind of hearings that are necessary for this kind of a very, very key position -- you hear it said often, but frankly not too often, that short of a declaration of war, the most important function of the United States Senate is the confirmation of U.S. Supreme court justice for lifetime terms.
They make the decision on the cutting edges of all of the big questions in our society.
As things have evolved, the Congress punts to the court, the executive branch punts to the court. And they have lifetime tenure and independence, and they have come somehow in our society to take on those cutting edge questions. So it is very, very important.
This creaking, uptight, legend in his own mind of a Senator got old a very long time ago. Cannot stand to see him and flip immediately when his sorry butt appears.
I believe that it is too long to wait myself.
All the Democrats will have to stall is to November.
History has shown how long they can stall.
Why?
Don't bother calling neither he or his staff gives a damn about what any of his constituents thinks unless they are Democrats. If Santorum is defeated it will his support of this jerk over a real conservative Toomey that will be what does him in.
Bump for the RINO's getting a clue and getting voted out.
Recess appointment time!
There is no need for the Gang of 14. All they need is Specter to keep in lockstep with them, and he is doing a fine job of it. Bush and the GOP have only themselves to blame for backing Specter in the election. It didn't have to be this way.
I understand your passion on this. I would like to have seen Alito confirmed sooner as well, but at the same time the holiday recesses for the Senate are coming up and so I guess I can understand the difficulty of scheduling hearings and getting Alito confirmed before Christmas. Sure I guess we can say the Senators need to stay in D.C. and do their jobs, but realistically that's just not going to happen.
Anyway, in the end if Bush had gotten the SCOTUS pick right the first time and picked Alito initially instead of Miers, chances are the hearings would be getting underway in about a week and likely completed by Christmas. Some of the blame on this has to go to the president's ill-advised first pick.
Anyway, let's keep some perspective here. Alito will be confirmed. We just have to wait a little longer is all. I don't think it's the end of the world.
Defeat these democrats with all due malice.
They have an election in November. The Democrats could win [by vote fraud] control of either or both Houses of Congress.I hope that they don't but it is possible.
You never know how an election will turn out.
Anyone who takes the Democrats for granted during an election is a fool.
Democrat vote fraud coupled with the stupidity of the American voter is a bad combination.
You are correct about the hearing. In fact, this hearing seems pretty quick. First the nominee has to visit with the Senators, then there is a break between those visits and the beginnings of the hearings.
There isn't time to get everything done -- not necessary to hold hearings in December when they are trying to get funding bills past.
Frankly, people would be better served to go after their RAT Senators when they are home for recess -- let them get an earful from their constituents. That will pay off in the long run IMHO.
I understand what you're saying, but personally in some ways I'd prefer we get past the holidays so Americans can witness the Alito confirmation hearing, and the Democratic extremist hysterics attendant to it, and be fully attentive and apprised to the Democratic obstructionism and smears against him when they're not distracted by holiday shopping and planning. Let's get into January and have the first thing Americans witness about the Democrats, as the midterm election year is ushered in, be their utter unfairness, ugliness and totally unhinged partisanship against a guy they will come to learn is highly intelligent, qualified and worthy of a Supreme Court seat. I'd rather they see all that free of the distraction of the holidays, at a time when the MSM will be hard pressed to bury the story.
Snarlin Arlen was putting these up all over PA during the election.
He's in his last term. The only hope we have is that his cancer won't die. LOL I know, I know. ;o) < /meanie >
He was NOT. It was a GOP operative named Roger Stone. Specter's campaign manager called for him to stop.
See The Philadelphia Daily News article on it. Seems like the guy's a sleaze.
