ALITO HEARINGS begin January 9 at noon, according to Specter. Floor vote on 20th, the chairman hopes.
Thanks for this info!!
"Now, frankly, would you give up your vacation periods to do hearings?"
I've stood watch on Christmas Day more than once.
A person who wouldn't give up a few days of his vacation for something this important should be expelled from the senate and stripped of his citizenship.
"our side is like 55 Dukakis"
Our side is like a severely over-costumed cast for "Vagina Monologues."
They probably would have expected that revoking the states' authority in the Senate would have pretty much exactly the effect it did, which is they they tried to forbid such a thing from happening.
"A person who wouldn't give up a few days of his vacation for something this important should be expelled from the senate and stripped of his citizenship."
How silly and overblown. Talk about hyperbole! You take the prize.
Oh, yeah, right, I forgot: people who take an oath and then betray the public's trust should be rewarded with six-figure incomes and three-month vacations.
Oh, and if you think that's just hyperbole, remember not to vote for me if I ever run for anything, because that's the sort of bill I would introduce.
"remember not to vote for me if I ever run for anything"
What a joke. What you going to run for, dogcatcher? And yes, I wouldn't vote for you, even for that.
Gee, knowing that I wouldn't have the votes of people who have nothing better to do with their time than engage in meaningless sniping at forum participants is very encouraging.
Maybe I will run for something.
The time to shape Specter up was prior to his reelection in 2004.
Now, he has been re-elected for the last time, he apparantly owes nothing to anybody, and he can do whatever he wants.
Well.. I have been thinking about this.. but in all reality. He can be denied the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee at any time.. but most especially in 2006 when the new congress is formed, assuming we hold the Senate. This means he still has something he loves to lose if he doesn't play.
I have a hard time blaming Specter solely for this. Senators of both parties are pretty lazy. Back in the 1800's they knew how to get their work done quicker.
