My wife likes me with a buzz cut and goatee. So do I. But I look like I could have been recently institutionalized with that arrangment. So I wear something different because of business expectations. Big deal.
I think the complain is that "white" is being used as a way to attack proper pronounciation.
Since "ebonics" failed to be legitimate, the race baiters now have to say "white talk" is eeeevil.
As for the argument that charity work is somehow bad, this is also total manure.
Perhaps what they are really worried about is the fact that their employers will consider them to be left wing kooks. If an employee does charity work for code pink, moveon.org, verterans for peace, NOWgang, or any other left wing kook cause, OF COURSE an employer is going to be concerned.
Consultant? What do they do?

In all seriousness, a consultant (or lawyer or doctor or whatever) earns an hourly rate. You make whatever you earn. It is only by having employees that earns you money, as well, that one truly gets ahead.
I tell this great secret to Conservatives because they will weld this power wisely.
I think "acting white" must be the same as what the liberals call "acting Republican". It's funny a white guy can also get refused a job for hairstyle too. Especially when they look hippish or unkempt. Go figure!

Current Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis was rewarded with a 10 year contract after a 5-2 start in his first 7 games as coach. He is white.
Tyrone Willingham started 8-0 his first 8 games as coach at ND. He was shown the door after 3 years. He is black.

Good post. I would add were not living in a Horatio Alger fable. Nepotism and incompetence abound in corporate America. As for discrimination, people are threatened by folks that are younger than them, smarter than them, look different, and so on. It's not really possible to make any sort of asessment as to if and why a paticular individual is being "held back" with out a heck of a lot more background then you're apt to find in an article like this.
