"We need Alito, and two more like him."

Maybe Ginsburg will relapse from cancer and retire, and Bush will then appoint Janet Rogers Brown???

Gee--a guy can DREAM, can't he??

Ditto. I like Scalia, and I like Alito, but there's only one Justice Clarence Thomas.

"Senator Frist is already exploring ways on how to surrender to the democrats on this appointment."

That's not what I heard Frist say with my own ears this morning in an interview. He told Tony Snow that he had spent a large part of the morning with Alito; that he is highly qualified, and that if the other side filibusters, he is ready to invoke the constitutional option AND he HAS the votes to do it!

Ok, I was going to post "go piss in someone else's wheaties." But I see you took care of it already.

Seen the Gladius Flashlight but Blackwater Night Ops?

"And whether the GOP will use the Democrat filibuster...."

They may not filibuster. I personally rather the democrats NOT filibuster.

My read is that question is 100% dependent on Specter.

If Specter chooses to oppose Alito, even mildly, not only is Alito toast, but the Nuke/Constitutional option will fail to gain the votes needed.

And ideology trumped gender in this case, right?

That has got to be one of the stupidest quotes I have ever read. So now people should be nominated ONLY because of their gender?

Perky Katie continues to set women back. Thanks Katie.

"Well now we know how the doom and gloomers are taking this news. Nice way to spin out of a potentially great news day."

My bet is Frist is actually thinking of how to surrender. Of course this has nothing to do with Hillary and Frist's FBI file and stock transactions. /sarcasm

Senator Frist is already exploring ways on how to surrender to the democrats on this appointment.

That sort of defeatism is really more appropriate for the French Army, not Free Republic.

[[We have a whole contingent of Fundamentalist identity politics people who would have taken a Fundamentalist moderate with a crappy resume over a Catholic conservative with a great resume.]]

Flawed reasoning, Rodney. You use an assumption, rather than fact, that Miers was/is a fundamentalist moderate, and compound your error by extending that assumption to a preference of your assumption over another of your assumptions. Is it your interest to keep trying to foster a divide ?

The same conservatives who opposed Miers had better get ready to fight like hell for Alito.

And what will the Meirs supporters do

So which assumption do you disagree with?

Anyway, do you deny that people are upset that another Catholic was nominated?
