And if Justice O'Connor agrees to stay until the end of the term next June, then the decisions will be made with her votes. So rather than have a new conservative justice that the president trusts, the conservatives are jumping for joy at the prospect of having decisions with O'Connor being the swing vote.

No, the way that Justice O'Connor stated her resignation, she is officially out the day that her replacement is confirmed. She is not "agreeing to stay to the end of the term." Instead, she stays until she is replaced, which is no change from when she handed her letter to the President back in June.

Better than having a stealth candidate for a lifetime. If you're angry, let the president know about all the time he wasted.
