Having seen you post on Miers threads earlier, I'm glad to see that you have actually considered the available evidence--instead of just making some who-else-you-gonna-vote-for decision.
It takes guts, my friend.

Those moderates among us (i.e., uncommitted conservatives, lukewarm Jim Jeffords, and RINOs) have been assuring us that she has this (mythological) conservative background, but the reports keep breaking about her supporting affirmative action, abortion, gay rights, and so forth that presumably destroy one of the core reasons some were pushing her nomination in the first place.

Frankly, I haven't been paying all that much attention the past few days (R/L intrudes), but now that I have returned to reviewing the Miers nomination, I believe I am in the process of joining you, LS.
To: LS
Bush has been very right on many issues (GWOT, Afghanistan, Iraq, tax cuts, appointing Bolton, etc.) but he has also been dismally wrong on many others (spending, borders/immigration, growing Federal Govt., supporting the re-election of RINOs, etc.).
It is our "duty," as he himself likes to say, to let him know when he is wrong, loud and clear.

I had a similar transition. I don't think she's a female Souter, though. I consider her to be more of an empty chair. And I believe she will go along to get along. An O'Connor with a head start.

I agree, as a very conservative prolife evangelical conservative, I've been supportive of the Miers nomination because I support President Bush in this time of war and I think it's time for a conservative evangelical on the Supreme Court. However, now I am very concern about what she said about abortion in the 1993 speech, and I will not support someone who is pro-choice or pro-abortion.

Maybe those that support Meirs, by stating she brought forward Roberts, should think that maybe they will both turn the court leftward?...That is frightening. IOW, we are really in a situation of trust with the first pick, the second should be someone that is a high likelihood of being a strict constructionist.
