The gay-oriented Houston Voice has "outed" CNN's Anderson Cooper and Fox News Channel's Shepard Smith, charging that they "choose to hide and deceive -- and to protect their incomes and images -- at the expense of contributing important weight and star power to the gay civil rights movement." Managing Editor Kevin Naff claims in an editorial appearing in the current edition of the Voice that Smith once tried to pick him up in a gay piano bar in New York City and that Cooper dodged a question about his sexual orientation in a recent New York magazine interview by saying, ""The whole thing about being a reporter is that you're supposed to be an observer and to be able to adapt with any group you're in ... and I don't want to do anything that threatens that." Commented Naff: "Does he believe that female and African-American reporters lack credibility to cover stories since their minority status is showing?"
Thanks, Island Jeff--didn't know the lingo.
Thanks Phantom Lord. Just seemed like a phrase that came out of nowhere, and interesting to know there's an explanation.
Sure do, both explanations in fact.
I think you summed it up about right!

As I recall, that was one of the Vernona Intercept finds, along with the 355 others.
Johnny Gill was a member of New Edition.
I agree! The ones to cast the first stones at somebody are usually the ones with the most to hide! Kinda nice to see it boomerang and bite THEM in the butt for a change!
That is no surprise, that other fellow that came to Fox News from CNN seems to be so as well.
I'd like to know just who the hell these people at the Houston Voice think they are. What gives them the right to "out" these people? Don't these people respect others privacy? I've never seen this Cooper person, but Shep is pretty good on the Fox Report.
I just want to know where this newspaper gets off. (probably a poor choice of words).
"I'm a helluva lot more interested in Laurie Dhue anyway."
Yeah and if Laurie is into chicks, I'm going to need video footage of it to convince me. Preferably DVD quality.
Which is why so many of us like your awful, crude and so cruel posts and replies! :)
Fionnula Sweeney..
I do care! They suck! Sodomites, perverts, are sick creatures. I think Shep was married once. Just like Ellen, I would never watch her show.
"To the mentally healthy (heterosexual), sex is something you do; To the mentally diseased (homosexual), sex is everything you are."
Honestly, I gotta disagree with you, based on first-hand observation: My brother is gay (the shame!) and he never talks about it and doesn't think it's a big deal one way or the other. He doesn't let it define him and doesn't care if people know about it or not.
So, who gives a damn? They are both fine reporters, as they proved during recent disasters--Anderson with his Great Tsunami coverage, and Shep with his Katrina coverage from New Orleans.
I'm not entirely convinced that Laurie Dhue is playing for the other team, either. I'll be needing my own copy of that DVD. :-)
