It may not have had storm surge in Okeechobee, but it has devastation and I understand you cannot get through to Okeechobee on US 27. There was a Marina destroyed and Mobile Homes destroyed.

Steve Jerve said it is the cold front. I'll take him at his word.

Sounds like a fun time at the beach this afternoon.

I think we're due for a break, but with Wilma strengthening the way she did...is...this season may not be over yet.

Even though Wilma's effects are not even catalogued yet, I'd like to say this before anyone escapes the thread. Thumbs up to everyone who contributed to this thread, and helped keep a voracious appetite for storm related information well fed.

You guys rock.

All is well here. Left much of the yard cleanup for tomorrow. Wasn't comfortable picking up limbs under the trees with the winds still gusting. The pool needs some attention too. Nothing that can't wait until tomorrow.

Thanks for support. Much appreciated.

I just walked across the street to a place called Founders Park our govt. center,it's under water.
Cars floating. The wind is blowing 40 knots and the water is "still" rising. there is not much tide there. It's mostly a wind blow event.Strange.

The reports from the east coast have been worse than most everyone expected. Will keep your family members in my prayers.

I don't doubt the area saw strong storm effects and damage, but until the hard data comes in, I like to look for reasons to be optimistic. It's a personal choice, not at all meant to minimize anyone's loss or suffering.

On the Infrared Enhanced Loop, look at the massive re-strengthening/re-formation of the eye between image/frame 13:15 and 13:45 UTC. Impressive!

Wilma had/still has a massive amount of kinetic energy that drew from all the water in, and around, the SFP. This is what makes lower SFP hurricanes so extremely dangerous. Then Wilma was/still is riding the pressure front like a rail.

Wilma running over the lower SFP was only a minor inconvenience to her forward path.

Nice pics...sure doesn't look like that today.

The wind is so high now it's all chop, no real swells, but fun anyway.

The wind is blowing 40 knots and the water is "still" rising.

That sounds like the cold front. Does that mean the water level would still be rising in flooded Key West too? Hope not.

Saw a report earlier of substantial damage to a school admin building in Broward. Everglades City is in very bad shape. Wide swath of damage across the state.

I've chatted with him before he told me his place will stand up to 150 mph but he may have some flooding down there.

Re: Re: Trampoline---

We turn ours upside down in the low part of the pasture (where water will collect in it), chain it to a tree, weight it down small trailer (also chained to tree). I am so tired of replacing trampolines... or having neighbors end up in our yard. After any hefty "gust" trampolines are just gone. This weighting down and turning upside down sure helped.

Good deal.

I hope I can convince you to look into the existence of a Skywarn network down there. You don't have to be a ham to listen. Back when I lived in town, I got 5 to 10 minutes advance severe weather warning from the scanner over broadcast warnings. More than once I was already under shelter, peeping back out waiting for something to happen when the sirens went off. You also have two directional traffic between the spotters and NWS, allowing you to know where the hotspots are forming and allowing you to be leaning forward before the early warning even exists.

Out here in the sticks, the increase in warning times measures ten to twenty minutes. The network here runs under tight discipline. All twister or related data, all the time. Very efficient.

Now if I could just find a way to keep lightning from baking any more scanners, I'd be all set.
