AP News Alert
MIAMI (AP) -- Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center say that Hurricane Wilma's outer eyewall has started hitting Florida near Marco Island.
Oops/ TV just went. Internet too, for awhile. Won't be long now before battery time!
Checking in from Juno Beach/Jupiter. Starting to blow pretty good. Probably gusts nearing 50mph. Very little rain - my patio isn't even wet.
Local news has the eye over eastern Palm Beach County in a little over 5 hours from now.
Not looking forward to the eventual power outage.
Good luck to everyone on the west coast. I don't want to trade with you on this one.
Ha - just as I was reading your post, the electricity went out momentarily, followed by a brownout. Fortunately, everything here is plugged into battery backup.

Movement over the previous 53 minutes - northeast (44 degrees) at 25 mph. This puts Wilma 25 miles southwest (237 degrees) of Marco Island and 33 miles south-southwest (210 degrees) of Naples.
Channel 2 Orlando says Wilma will exit at Jupiter, the same place Frances and Jeanne came in last year.
Good luck to you too. Wilma will still be quite powerful when she gets to you.
Local news has the eye travelling over Sewell's Point/Stuart on it's way out into the Atlantic. That would be amazing to have 3 hurricane eyes pass over you in 14 months.
You stay safe. Praying for all of you.
Good news folks, as good as can be expected. The eyewall is fitting near perfectly into the concave shoreline of SW Florida. That means max winds at Marco and Naples are coming from onshore, instead of driving the surge inland. Not much but it's something.
If you lose the connection, good luck, and stay safe.
Gathering our supplies for our trip to the "safe room".
My wife got up early to cook up a hot meal for all of us. I ground up all our coffee for the next few days. Can you believe I look forward to each morning to try a new blend and this week isn't any different? That's addiction, amiga. ; )
So, getting blustery here. Prayers out to all of you from Boca Raton. May God see you and yours safely through this.
And prayers back to you and yours.
Been out of the loop for several hours. Neighbor down the street started having chest pains and called. I went over- took one look at him and called 911. EMT arrived packed him up with O2 and an IV and off to the hospital. His wife has emphysema and was a wreck so I sat with her til her daughter arrived a few mins ago.
Rain heavy here- gusty winds- torando warnings everywhere in the area.
Going to get a cuppa REAL coffe- neighbors had INSTANT. There ought to be a law..
Thanks for checking in with the local update. Please keep us posted as often as you can. Godspeed.
Looks like this will be the worst storm to hit here since Andrew, and I remember that one quite well. This wont be as bad overall, but it sure is bringing back some bad memories..
Lost power again four times in a row, for about five minutes each time. Of course, it would go out again just as I was getting online again. Let's see how long I can stay on.
Any updated word on what Wilma will do to TD AlGore?
Thanks. Probably going to blow real soon. Power line right out front sparking.
