Court issues warrant for DeLay, sets bail:

AP By William L. Watts

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- A Texas court on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, and set his bail at $10,000 in a routine step before his first court appearance on conspiracy and state money laundering charges, the Associated Press reported. The issuance of the warrant is "a matter of routine and bond will be posted," DeLay attorney Dick DeGuerin told the A.P. The lawyer said DeLay would make his first court appearance Friday morning. DeLay, who remains a member of Congress, relinquished his leadership post last month after being indicted on a charge of conspiring to violate state campaign finance laws. DeLay contends the charges are politically motivated and that he will be vindicated at trial.

uh.. both of your example individuals are fictional characters

Yes, I know they are fictional characters but I thought if I used an example like Jesus of Nazareth that the fundy Christians on this board would get bent all out of shape.

He's the best example, though - unjustly accused, political charges, kangaroo court, publicly humiliated.

Yes, I know that Jesus was sinless.

Yes, I also know that Tom DeLay is a sinner like all of us.

Yes, I know that some of you might think that the comparison is blasphemy or the like: but I don't care what you think because Jesus said that if we were truly followers of His we would be persecuted.

Yes, I know that the events surrounding his situation were not "ministry related". Yes, I also know that Tom DeLay is not up against the death penalty like the Lord was. It's just an example.

So here's my point - that often times we as humans can't see past the current bad situation, avoiding pain and suffering at all costs. What we cannot see is how God can use suffering to make us more like Jesus. 2 Cor. 4.17, Romans 8.28.

It's not what any prosecutor, judge, political party/news media thinks of Tom DeLay that is important, it's God.

Another example would be Job - he did nothing to deserve his misfortunes but God used his situation (and subsequent redemption) to present a message that God is in control of everything even if it doesn't seem that way.

A true waste is when we enter trials and tribulations and we don't learn from them. The mature Christian can learn from his/her situations to become a better follower of Jesus, more closely imitating His life.

How's that?

That "new tone" is a real puzzler, isn't it? I don't know anything about this author, Andrew Wheat, but obviously the "old tone" is alive and kicking in Texas.

I think that was well said.

Texas brings out the Best in good people, and the worst in Democrats.

LtKerst, that statement of yours belongs in Bartlett's!

Sorry but what is a "neutral judge?"

I guess it is kind of like art:

'I don't know about judges, but I know what I like.'

I do not "like" Ronnie Earle's reported tactics and his history of "going after" people like he did with Kay Bailey Hutchinson. All I'm wondering is this: with the obvious tenacity with which Ronnie Earle is pursuing DeLay, who is overseeing Ronnie Earle to make sure things are being done within the law and within reason. Has the Texas AG spoken this?

Earle is tying up DeLay and that means he's tying up the political process, IMHO.

Have you ever met Earle or DeLay, HC? I wish I knew more about both of them and had a personal reference on each. Or, maybe not, considering the old saw about politics:

One should never watch sausage or legislation being made.

DeLay was out front when the hurricanes Katrina & Rita came through. But, so was Sheila Jackson Lee. Any idea of what either of them did to assist in the emergency? Just curious, HC; I realize from this whole DeLay/Earle charade that I am woefully not as "edumacated" locally as I feel I should be. I love Texas; maybe its time to get to know Texas a little bit more, warts and all.

When you talk to your dad, see what he thinks about the fact that the Ft Bend Sheriff can't stand the Congressman.

Man, I'd like to know that, too! Is the Ft. Bend sheriff Milton Wright? If so, is he the same sheriff that got into it frequently with Jon Matthews prior to Matthews indecency problems?

And, being from NC this will be my first time to donate to an out of state congressman.

Bless your heart, fabriclady. Righteousness knows no boundaries, does it?! I've been thinking of donating to Pirro's campaign against Hillary, so I know how you feel!

deport...sorry, I didn't correctly format my reply to you. S/h/b:

What needs to be done imo is change the process and take this power away from the Travis County DA and place it in the hands of the State AG.

And, my response was:

Has the State AG commented on this case? Greg Abbott, right?

I have no idea if he has or not. I haven't seen anything from him but I've not looked that closely either.

I see the day when there may be civil war in America

My b-i-l said the same thing a few months back. It is an upsetting thought. All the more reason to "give no quarter" now on what may seem like inconsequential or little things.

Earle must've worked like crazy to get this going on Saddam Hussein's first trial day. I suspect Wilma is dampening the effect Earle wanted to make, though.

"If the Texas Constitution allows it, Governor Perry should issue a full pardon for Delay now. He should then have Earle arrested for abusing his office."

Good idea! The whole Republican team needs to be playing hardball when one is thrown at us!

I told the RNC - no more money until we start fighting back.

These bogus arrests must either be stopped or returned tenfold.
