Russians help Iran with missile threat to Europe
Telegraph ^ | October 16, 2005 | Con Coughlin

Posted on 10/15/2005 5:35:47 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

Former members of the Russian military have been secretly helping Iran to acquire technology needed to produce missiles capable of striking European capitals.

The Russians are acting as go-betweens with North Korea as part of a multi-million pound deal they negotiated between Teheran and Pyongyang in 2003. It has enabled Teheran to receive regular clandestine shipments of top secret missile technology, believed to be channelled through Russia.

Western intelligence officials believe that the technology will enable Iran to complete development of a missile with a range of 2,200 miles, capable of hitting much of Europe. It is designed to carry a 1.2-ton payload, sufficient for a basic nuclear device.

The revelation raises the stakes in the confrontation between Iran's Islamic regime and the West - led by the United States and European countries including Britain.

Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state, clashed with Russian officials over Iran's nuclear programme during a visit to Moscow yesterday, saying that Teheran must fulfil its obligations under the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty.

She was later expected to urge President Vladimir Putin to back a referral of Iran to the United Nations Security Council.

A senior American official said Iran's programme was "sophisticated and getting larger and more accurate. They have had very much in mind the payload needed to carry a nuclear weapon.

"I think Putin knows what the Iranians are doing."

Iran is believed to be hiding its weapons development behind its nuclear power programme, for which it receives Russian support, and has refused to suspend uranium enrichment or to allow full UN inspections.

John Bolton, the US ambassador to the UN, told BBC2's Newsnight that Iran was "determined to get nuclear weapons deliverable on ballistic missiles it can then use to intimidate not only its own region but possibly to supply to terrorists".

Iran's longest-range missile is the Shahab 3, which, with an 800-mile range, could hit Israel. The North Korean deal will allow the Iranian missile to reach targets far into Europe - including Rome, Berlin, and much of France.

North Korea has developed a missile, the Taepo Dong 2, that could reach America's west coast, based on the submarine-launched Soviet SSN6. Modifications allow it to be fired from a land-based transporter and this technology is being smuggled to Teheran with Russian help.

Russians have provided production facilities, diagrams and operating instruction so the missile can be built in Iran. Liquid propellant has been shipped to Iran. Russian specialists have also been sent to Iran to help development of its Shahab 5 missile project, which the Iranians hope to have operational by the end of the decade.

seriously though

what prevents them from having "fronts" in france/ uk/ russia?

if they can have companies here in north america seeking any technology... with their brethern shipping.... why not in Russia?

beyond that what has prevented muslims from elevating themselves up through the russian political system undetected? appearing only as russians?

Hope they don't expect the "evil" George Bush to help them defend against this threat.

Remember this:

Moscow Moved Weapons to Syria and Lebanon According to a former top Bush administration official, Russian special forces teams moved weapons of mass destruction out of Iraq to Syria. "I am absolutely sure that Russian Spetsnatz units moved WMD out of Iraq before the war," stated John Shaw, the former deputy undersecretary for international technology security. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2005/3/2/230625.shtml

I still believe that Iraq had the WMD's that the whole world thought they had and where they may have ended up scares the cr*p out of me. Does it bother anyone else that Iran is just way too cocky for a hostile regime that is surrounded by the most powerful military in the world? I can understand their mistaken belief that we are too extended to put boots on the ground in Iran, but it just seems too far fetched to believe that they don't fear what we could do to them from the air, unless they believe they have something that could prevent it.

During this upcoming winter where Syria, Iran, Hamas and Hizballah are finally confronted by an Allied force - which side will the Russians back?

Ezekiel 38, they declare Jihad and invade Israel. But something has happened to America so that we are not there to stop them.

Considering all the problems Russians have with jihaadism on their borders, why on earth would their leadership help the mullah dictatorship in Iran?

Afganistan, if you can't beat them, join them...

We got 27,000 nuclear warheads. Well of course there is the idiots in state department that are anti-Israel, but last I checked, the State Department does not handle military policy.

Well, let's hope their nukes will hit Berlin and Paris to kill some Anti-American Euroliberals, if they ever succeed. Every Euroliberal that bites the dirt is good for the world.

I don't even like whispering the name 'Hillary', that could be the deleterious thing which happens to America and then Ezekiel 38 runs like prophetic clock work.

Exactly! And as long as Russia, Iran N. Korea and the rest think that they can get away with all this sh!t with no repercussions they will keep doing it. The hard hand of the US or Israel is all they understand. As long as we remain "soft" they will do anything they feel like doing.
You would think we might "get" it after while.

"The damn Russians have a lot of nerve helping the worst Islamic terrorist rouge state on the face of the earth with gaining long range offensive nuclear weapons. Yet we are told now Moscow is our friend (?)"

How else will "Russia" ever reclaim a superpower status? The pro-Moscow posters will come along and claim Russia is just looking out for themselves the "Christian way", you did know that Putin is a "Christian" didn't you???? (sarcasm)

Yeah I have heard that crap before from some of these posters and I do not trust them or the russian government, and never will. Is it a coincidence that every crisis after WW2 has had russia on the other side fighting a proxy war against the west
or arming and funding the opposition? Russia and China have abused their power in the UNSC to veto resolution after resolution to the point of the UNSC becoming a joke. They have their own little alliance called the SCO(Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and are now starting to flex a some muscle. The US and EU need to wake up these people plan to be the superpower bloc in the near future.

I expect Russia and China to complete their plans on invasion of the United States when their plans on Jihad uprise in the Middle East and Asia come to fruit.

I expect it will be a Russian made SS-26 missile delivering a Islamic Bomb full of Russian enriched Plutonium over our troops massed to invade Iran that will trigger North Koreas invasion and Chinas invasion of Taiwan.

Once our Military is drawn fully into survival mode overseas, our Coastline will be nuked and invaded with no military or national guard defense of the coop, the fox will have its day with the hens.

That is why there will be no opposition to Russias plans for the Middle East oil jackpot. America as a free Nation will no longer exist at that point.

As planned...
