There is some little bit of Texas in everyone.

Prune juice will help that problem I hear :-)

I've a great respect for Texas, though not to the point of idolatry.

Our capital, topped with Lady Liberty, is taller than D.C.'s.

Yee haw! Don't mess with Texas!

That's Right (You're Not from Texas)
by Lyle Lovett

You say you’re not from Texas
Man as if I couldn't tell
You think you pull your boots on right
And wear your hat so well

So pardon me my laughter
’Cause I sure do understand
Even Moses got excited
When he saw the promised land

Chorus:
That’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway

See I was born and raised in Texas
And it means so much to me
Though my girl comes from down in Georgia
We were up in Tennessee

And as we were driving down the highway
She asked me baby what’s so great
How come you’re always going on
About your Lone Star State

I said that’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway

Chorus

Oh the road it looked so lovely
As she stood there on the side
And she grew smaller in my mirror
As I watched her wave goodbye

Those boys from Carolina
They sure enough could sing
But when they came on down to Texas
We all showed them how to swing

Now David’s on the radio
And old Champ’s still on the guitar
And Uncle Walt he’s home with Heidi
Hiding in her loving arms

Chorus

They’re OK in Oklahoma
Up in Arkansas they’re fair
But those old folks in Missouri
They don’t even know you’re there

But at a dance hall down in Texas
That’s the finest place to be
The women they all look beautiful
And their men will buy your beer for free

And they’ll say that’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway

Chorus

So won’t you let me help you Mister
Just pull your hat down the way I do
And buy your pants just a little longer
And next time somebody laughs at you

You just tell ’em you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
That’s right you’re not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway

Texas is a place where towns and cities shut down to watch the local High School Football game on Friday nights and for the Cowboys on Monday Night Football, and for the Night In Old San Antonio River Parade in San Antonio. Texas is ocean beaches, deserts, lakes and rivers, mountains and prairies, and modern cities.

Thanks for the outstanding post!!!

As for shutting down for Friday night football, You bet.

Coleman is playing Bangs tonight. Promises to be a great game....

Coleman is about as close as being "Deep in the Heart of Texas" as you can get, cept maybe Brady.
LOL

Thanks again.

"In every man, woman and child on this planet, there is a person who wishes just once he could be a real live Texan and get up on a horse or ride off in a pickup."

Uhhh....it's a nice place, but the writer has obviously never spoken with a Montanan.

Few people know that George Washington origally came from Texas. When he was young, he lived near Fort Davis. Up in Cherry Canyon, he cut down a 110-cherry tree. When his father asked about it, George replied, "I cannot tell a lie. I cut down the tree with my little hatchet." George's father replied, "Well then, Son, as you cannot tell a lie, we'll have to move from Texas." And that's why the Washingtons moved to Virginia.

Nice. But for some reason, your list of great Texans did not include Ann Richards and Sheila Jackson Lee.

I think Houston is a sprawling sh-thole and that Port Arthur is a pit. Outside of that, Texas truly is a great state with friendly people to boot. Love the Hill Country (cool German Churches), San Antonio, Austin, and even places like Del Rio have their charm (such as that city's museaum, with the largest creche display in North America).

A Shiner Bock to the Lone Star State and its people.

Texas is honestly the greatest place I've ever lived in, and I have now lived in the northeast, the midwest and the south. People here are laidback and friendly. I mean, the first day I stepped into the local church the folks there welcomed me with open arms. Frankly, if it wasn't for family(I'm a college student), I'd be happy to live here forever.

Texas is a great place, folks in West Texas are the greatest people on earth. Having said that I moved when I was 30 to the beachs of California and have missed only Lake Travis since I left (well Whataburgers too). Oh I miss those 100degree July - Aug days too but not much, although it is funny to watch people in San Francisco complain when the heat gets up to 80.

No offense, but Texas weather is so %#* hot and humid I about died from drowning in my own sweat when there. It was like being on the scorched surface of Venus, except with dripping humidity.
