Tampa, Florida (AP) -- Authorities say a passenger punched out an airplane window during an outburst on an American West flight from Las Vegas to Tampa.
According to an FBI affidavit, 24-year-old Ryan Marchione of Venice shattered a plastic shield covering the glass window and disconnected its frame about 90 minutes into Tuesday's overnight flight.
The outer window was not damaged and the plane did not depressurize, the airline said.
Marchione was arrested after the plane landed Wednesday morning at Tampa International Airport.
He faces up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted of a charge of damaging or destroying an aircraft while it was operating.
Marchione's attorney says his client's outburst appeared to come out of nowhere, and could have been a psychotic episode caused by drug abuse.
why arent't there more bruises on his face???
why aren't there more bruises on his face???
There's no reason why this guy should have been able to leave the cabin under his own power.
Maybe my eye is jaundiced, but he looks like a newly-christened fan of Mohammed to me...
Because the airplane didn't fight back.
Because the airplane didn't fight back.
It's common knowledge that everyone on the plane would have been sucked through the open window. everyone, that is, except for James Bond and Pussy Galore
I am shocked and outraged to learn that this young man punched a widow. Women who have lost their husbands are already enduring unspeakable grief, and to add injury to insult by physically attacking them is a despicable . . .
What? It's not a widow puncher? It's a window puncher?
Never mind.
And it could have been anger at losing $$$ in Las Vegas.
People have been known to lose homes and cars because of gambling "issues".
This freak should NEVER be allowed to fly on a commercial plane again. A law should be passed ASAP because there are so damn many of these out of control people flying.
Hyperbole. This story is not print-worthy. Just sensationalism by the media.
Relation to Mary (KO) Landrieu?
he only broke the plastic cover
I'm with'ya. First thought I had when his pic came up.
All Goldfinger did was fire a revolver.
If anything like this ever happens on one of my flights, they just might end up having to take ME into custody.
Sounds like an Italian-Irish combination. I am Italian-American my own self so, it always sounds a little odd to me when an Italian surname has an Irish first name. ;)
