White House warns holdouts

White House officials have a message for conservative Republican senators who have expressed doubt about supporting Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers.

The West Wing types argue that she will turn out to be just as conservative as President Bush says she is, and voting against her would be an embarrassment over the long term. This message is intended for holdouts including Sam Brownback of Kansas, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, and Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania.

"If Miers is confirmed and she winds up being what the president says she is, Republican senators who voted against her will look quite foolish," says a GOP insider. This could cause a backlash against these legislators from conservative Bush supporters at the grass roots.

Please refer to that portion of the Constitution which says that I am to "trust him".

"Nice strawman."

Ha, ha. Don't you love it when people explain your own motives to you?

Which ones: the deliberately lying or the simply nervous or the gullible?

The ones who oppose everything the President does definitely suck.

If you think the latter, you should not have voted for him in the first place. What ever happened to trust and faith? I for one am sticking with the President, I can always dislike him later if he screws me. And if he does, life will go on as it wouldn't be the first time someone let me down in life. Aloha

But you have to have some evidence the President did something stupid. He performed his Constitutionally mandated duty and now the Senate will perform his. Your role was to vote for electors and Senators. All the rest is Sound and Fury signifying nothing.

"Please refer to that portion of the Constitution which says that I am to "trust him"."

You'll find that in his copy of The Constitution and Mein Keimpf, a comparative approach to winning for the Party.

The Bush defenders in this instance, don't even know how to defend Bush. Things remain as they are a Democratic majority is possible in 06. They themselves believe the Dems will move to impeach (it's possible, I admit). Our Miers pick defenders here, are not helping anyone in that election by placing their loyalty to Bush over conservative concerns and the party. If you let them, they'll end up depressing base turnout so much they'll effectuate the impeachment of their hero.

It is amazing when you consider that conservative talk radio was thought by many to be a deciding factor in taking the House in 94. Now, it seems that many on these threads trash most conservative talk radio simply because its hosts criticize this nominee to the SC. Very short sighted.

Those who undermine the President doing his Constitutional duty will be the death of the Party. Those who presume to have more wisdom and knowledge in this area when they have little will be the death of the Party. Those who adopt a pose of irrational opposition based on feelings and join its enemies in effect will be the death of the Party.

" Why did Rush spread the same LIE? This is an example of the utter dishonesty of the Antis."

So don't listen to an "elitist" "liar" like Rush Limbaugh!

The Senate advises and consents on a PERSON not a "record" but since this nominee has an excellent record that is not be a problem for the fair-minded either.

There is no evidence the President is wrong. There is plenty of evidence his detractors are full of crap and do not care about the Founders' view of this process.

They think THEY are the ones nominating. LoL. Delusions of Grandeur.

Which part of "We already have been betrayed." do you people not understand? Some of us aren't willing to gamble such an important person based on the judgement of a "conservative" who signed CFR, spends OUR money like a drunken sailor, never
uses his veto power, and refuses to do anything about illegal immigration.

I am especially suspicious now that he has used such low-down spiteful tactics. If he has to use them, perhaps he should use them against the LEFTISTS.

Here we have a nominee recommended by one of the most foul Senate Dems, and who is being supported staunchly by a pro-abortion First Lady who doesn't want Roe V Wade overturned. Gee, I don't know why I have doubts.
