What has she ever done to advance the cause of a conservative judiciary? Vetted a few judges? What has Frum done except bellyache? Vetting conservative judges is no small deal, except to you.
For that matter, what have YOU done? Do you know anything about these judges and their philosophies, or do you wait for David Frum's column to tell you what to think about them?
Miers is NOT going home, and will likely be confirmed. You can sulk like a two-year old and start voting for some sex-drugs-n'-rock-n'-roll third party, or you can grow up and continue to work for conservative candidates.

"Just an observation, but Miers critics seem to have a higher average intelligence than supporters."
No, they just have really good self-esteem about being really f***ing stupid.

lol.... the personal attack, the last refuge for those who have lost the argument but refuse to concede. It takes more than calling me stupid to win an argument.

the "gang of 14 only includes 7 Republicans. These 7 might play brinksmanship with their political future to stop a GOP nomination but I think we could have turned at least two of them anyway...and the nuclear option could still be used. Especially in a case like this.

Observations of fact are not personal attacks.

With one grave misjudgment, George W. Bush has shattered the coalition that brought and returned him to power in 2000 and 2004"
So because of one appointment of a lady who the Conservative Beltway Writers don't know--and therefore don't like--the coalition will shatter?
I guess all their talk about changing the country behind Rep. Pres and Rep. Congress was just hot air?

"Want to place a bet?"
You can't win a bet like that. If a conservative advocates her dismissal for stupidity he/she could not be a "compassionate" conservative.

I'm sure you are not going to sing Bernard Kerrick's praises. When the facts came out, Kerik withdrew his acceptance of the nomination.

And the constitutional option ... I prefer that terminology ... is going to get exactly how many votes this time?
Again, we should've done it when we had the chance before. I think that chance is gone because IMHO there were some so-called RINOs ... including Spector ... who would've voted for it before. I don't think they will this time.

Attacking Frum, or his motives, will not alter the essential point which is Miers was clearly not the strongest candidate available for SCOTUS. She has no history that gives one comfort she can withstand the pressures of the office. You knew Scalia and Thomas would handle the pressure because of their history of having done so throughout their lives.
We fought for 30 years to overturn the tyranny of the court and now when the opportunity is presented we are left with question marks.

You knew Scalia and Thomas would handle the pressure because of their history of having done so throughout their lives. I didn't know about Clarence Thomas. His paper trail was thin, George HW Bush hailed him as "the best candidate available," when it was clear he was replacing the black member of the SC, and he lied in his hearings, when he said that he had never discussed Roe v. Wade with anyone.
So, Thomas was an unknown quantity to me, though I did rally to him when Anita Hill entered the picture.

While all this arguing is going on, it's a good time for conservatives to search their hearts to see if they really wanted "originalists" on the court or if they really wanted "conservatives" on the court.
I like this line of thought. How would you differentiate between the two?

So when the going gets tough the get consent forms...from Harry Reid? I wouldn't base my decisions on what Reid says....either way.
I would like to hear what Miers has to say.

Well
Then
self-congratulatory nonsense as the
famous gather to applaud their seeming
greatness
you
wonder where
the real ones are
what
giant cave
hides them
as
the deathly talentless
bow to
accolades
as
the fools are
fooled
again
you
wonder where
the real ones are
if there are
real ones.
this self-congratulatory nonsense
has lasted
decades
and
with some exceptions
centuries.
this
is so dreary
is so absolutely pitiless
it
churns the gut to
powder
shackles hope
it
makes little things
like
pulling up a shade
or
putting on your shoes
or
walking out on the street
more difficult
near
damnable
as
the famous gather to
applaud their
seeming
greatness
as
the fools are
fooled
again
humanity
you sick
m*therf*cker.
Charles Bukowski
just about sums up how I feel about this situation.
